:) Hi, do any of you guys read 'that's life' or 'take 5' magazine?? I was thinking that maybe one of you guys could write to the mags with an IC story, It would get some nationwide publicity, plus you get paid for it. these magazines only publish real life stories, including medical conditions, so it not like the gossip magazines, I don't want to write in myself simply because I have not been diagnosed as yet and I haven't had the experience like some of you guys had. I have read a IC story in an English mag not so long ago, that magazine is similar to the that's life and take 5 mag, It's just an idea, but a worthwhile one I think,

Great idea Martha. I can't write it either not actually having IC but perhaps my problem could sneek in too. Best to do the IC first.
Hopefully, some of the others here will answer this thread.

Kirsten, Andrea, George,Berry,Nadia, Mab and Crybaby ( sorry if I've left anyone out)
this could get some recognition here.
Sara I've left you out on purpose, you are probably pretty preoccupied right now. How are you going?

I'll write them, and I bet a few others will to.. the more we advertise the more we will get reconized. :)

This is a fantastic idea Martha, but I could be sure that I would not be able to write a story or definitely have my big mug plastered on one of their pages. However mabey we could contact them & see if they would be interested in our story & use bits & peices from us & our US friends lives with IC. I think they do have a section in the magazine on medical issues, so even if they wouldn't use our stories maybey we get get them to do a small section in the health part on IC. I know many of us have tried to reach the meadia several times, but this magazine may be different??? Could be worth a try.

:) Hi andrea, I definately think it would be worth to try, they are always asking for people to write in with their stories, I know you are a bit camera shy, so maybe they can do a smaller section where they deal with medical issues, and they don't use photo's as far as I know, I read this story in one of those magazines recently, and this woman complaint about urinary problems actually very similar to IC, but I was so frustrated to see that the dr who answered her question just put it down to bacterial cystitis, not ever did IC get a mention, we are really lacking awareness in this country, and it is so frustrating, I hope some of the other aussies will see this and hopefully we get the ball rolling so to speak,

I'd be happy to edit anything someone wants to write, if you like - I edit lots of writing for a living after all as an academic, so would be happy to help out. Just let me know.

I forgot to check on this thread again. As I am such a poor writer, what about if a few of as sent a short story on our life with IC to Kirsten,& she may be agle to just take bits & peices of them & combine it into a bit of an article for us. ( only if you would have the time Kirsten. I don't want to overload too much work on you as once again the end of year) I would be happy to send it off to a few mags for us all. Let me know what you think. And Kirsten don't feel pressured to say yes if you are too busy.
Ok here from you soon

I'd be happy to - no trouble at all. It wouldn't take me very long, I don't think.

Just let me know...

I am sorry that I can't contribute, not actually having IC. However, I think it is a great idea. That magazine is very popular. If an article was able to help even one person it would be worthwhile.

:) Hi everyone.

I'm sorry, I can honestly say that I haven't checked in on these boars in about a month! I'm slack. Thanks for asking about me Rosalie- yes, I have been a bit "preoccupied," :) and just very tired and busy with stuff. Had my daughters birthday weekend before last and hubby was on a weeks "holiday," but we were just so busy trying to get things organised around here because he won't have time off again til bubby comes. (9 weeks left and it's SOOOOOO hot right now  ) I am really suffering, not coping with the heat and I have done something terrible to my back and my bladder has been pretty bad. I have also been just an emotional wreck, really. Everything makes me cry- I nearly admitted myself to the hospital last week on the grounds that I thought I was having a breakdown. My hubby's work hours have changed- he's working 11-7 instead of 9-5 and isn't getting home until about 8pm. Needless to say, I am finding this very hard. By the night I am exausted and just ready to sleep and I have an active 4 year old at my side 24/7. She's getting clingy and a bit difficult, I can only assume because bubby is coming soon. Anyway, sorry to rave on- speak of the devil she is right now

if there is anything I can do in the way of writing let me know. I am happy to write down my horrid IC tail.

Hope everyone else is well and I will try and check in more often.

sara :)

:) Hi Sara, I'm sorry you are having such a horrid time, and I think it's really nice of you to offer to write a story about your IC, but I really think that you have enough on your plate right now, maybe when things settle down for you, you could do it then, but I think at the moment you need some time for yourself, I don't mean to discourage you from writing a letter, but I think it would be selfish of me to put that pressure on you, maybe in a few months we could think about this thing again, and maybe '' hopefully'' things will have improved for you,
take care martha

In all honesty, I have probably got more chance of writing something now than in a few months when baby is here! :) I would like to contribute anyway, so just let me know when and what you want me to do. I probably could do with the distraction!! Thanks for being so sympathetic though. :)

:) Hi Sara, I had a look in my magazine called ''that's life'' I'm not sure if you have ever heard of it, but it is very popular, they are real life stories, anyway in there they have a weekly section called '' healthy living'' and people write in about their illness, it usually covers one page, and sometimes two.
They have a section in this mag where you can tell a bit of your IC story, it's only a few lines, so you have to make it interesting enough for them to want to contact you, if they are interested they will contact you, and take it from there, I'm not sure if they come to your place, or if they will contact you by phone, I assume they will come to your home because most if not all have photo's published with their story. there are 4 ways you can contact them, you can call them, write to them, or by e-mail, or fax, so could you please let me know what you think about this, thanks Martha
