Hey everyone,
I haven't been on the boards lately. My IC has been doing alot better lately. I had a 6 week course of elmiron instills and I quit smoking. I have
been having alot of PMS symptoms for the last year. I have not dealt with it
because up until anbout 2 months ago, my IC was terrible. When I went to the gyn in May he told me he thought I had pms syndrome. I did not even want to consider the idea at the time but now I think he might be right.
I just feel out of control alot, like my emotions are all over the place. But mainly I am just so ill for the whole 2 weeks before my period. Oh and I am so tired and sooo moody. It is so bad that a few of my coworkers went to my boss and complained that I blow up so easily. I hate that they feel like that
so maybe I do need to do something.( I also just quit smoking 6 weeks ago so I know that I have been a terror to be around)
I would hate for those girls to be compassionate though. They are all very
healthy indiviuals so they can not understand my life at all. I am so frustated right now. I should be starting my period soon. I just do not want anything else to be wrong and plus it is really hard for me to be off work even for a little while. I am an ultrasound tech at a hospital and they are very strict about it. I already have MVP, endometriosis, IC, and, recurrent sinsusitis, and
possibly fibro and I am only 27 years old.
Does anyone have pms syndrome? I was wondering what all it is and what the treatments are. Thanks for listening to me! :cussing:

Hi monica and welcome back to the boards. I'm sorry you have been threw so much. I hope your installments helped you.
I had pms syndrome awfully bad until i had my hy. May 17 of this year. it was awful plus i always got (this went on for over a year) true uti a week before my mthly started and it wouldn't leave until after my peroid was gone. (like two are three days later) with anti.
i cramped so badly, I was ill all the time my back killed me. it was so awful!
I was fearful to have the hy but glad i did those awful systom are finally gone! I had a hy for other reason i was boarder line cancer and to have it removed would save me from getting cancer.
hope you find something that helps you soon.

I used to have horrible problems with my periods. My emotions would be all over the place, I'd cry uncontrollably, everything got on my nerves, & the cramps were even worse. It was so bad that when I was 24 my coworker came to me & told me that everyone on staff could tell when I had my period, that they all cared about me & that I really needed to see a doctor for it. I went to my doctor & they sent me to a PMS class, which did absolutely nothing, even though I followed the suggestions offered (no caffeine, no sugar, exercise frequently).

What did stop the problem was going on the birth control pill & I used it to control my PMS & cramps for 10 years. It made having a period no big deal. When I was 35, I decided to go off it, just in case I might want to have a baby before age 40. My IC started the second cycle off-pill & I ended up having to go back on it to control the IC pain & frequency. Apparently my body needs it. I sometimes wonder if IC is why my cramps & pain were so bad before & during periods...

What I have heard of as treatment for PMS is: calcium (talk to your doctor about what kind & how much), birth control pills, and Motrin for cramps (not ok for people with IC). I haven't looked in to this recently because I only have about 3 periods a year by using the Necon 1/35 continuously.

I understand where you're coming from...Hope you find something that works soon!

I always had terrible pms going for years. It got so bad that I would just plan around it if you know what I mean. It has helped a lot by going on estrogen. I feel a lt calmer. I am still having terrible IC pain but can handle it better. Maybe we need to find out all the similarities here and see what we have in common. Maybe it would help us figure this out. I am tired of waiting for the doctors to do it!

I've had terrible PMS since I started having periods. You name it, I had it bad - cramping till I cried, suicidal mood swings, headaches, the runs, bloating up 5 pounds, etc. Fortunately, getting on birth control pills did help - though I also had bad reactions from most. The only type of birth control pills that doesn't bother me is Yasmin. It calmed my PMS down, but I still choose to skip my periods since the PMS still isn't pleasant.

I have that really bad PMS - I can't remember the name for it. I take an antidepressant for it. The hormone changes with menstruation can mess with your serotonin and make you feel really, really whacky around your period. The antidepressant helps regulate your serotonin.

Some women find that even just taking an antidepressant during the week before their periods helps. I take it all month long b/c I have depression and anxiety anyway.

I would ask your doctor about an antidepressant. I can honestly say that pre-antidepressant I always knew my period was coming b/c I got so weepy and irritable the week before. Now I really have to watch the calendar b/c I don't get that emotional crazy stuff anymore.

hey kim,
What can of antidepressant are you on?The gyn put me on wellbutrin but I really can't tell a difference yet. He decided to increase my dosage but I haven't tried it yet. My
chiropractor put me on calcium gel caps 2 times a day. I will see if that helps. My main problem is that I am on so many meds that it is hard to remember to take all of them.
For my IC I take elavil at night. I have had about some weight gain but actually I think
that is from quitting smoking back in September. I take elmiron instillations as needed.
I take UTA during the day as needed and pyridium plus as needed. I have some hydrocodone left from my last cysto that I saved for extreme painful days. For my endometriosis, I am on the birth control patch. And really not much else.
Also I take vitamins and calcium. Who can remember all of that everyday?
Thanks everyone for your replies.
Monica
