I got my instill meds......sorta. The pharmacist was so confused but he put it all together for me, syringes, needles, vials of heparin, sodium bicarb and the lidocaine. The problem...he gave me the wrong dose of heparin! I got home, after a 25 minute ride home in rush hour feeling like crap, and double checked the dosage and he gave me vials of 10 units per ml. Wronnnnnng. It's supposed to be 10,000 per ml. So I called him back and he told me he was glad I was a nurse and that I caught that......well so am I.
He had his delivery boy bring me carpujects of heparin, 8 of them, which was enough for one dose....the rest I'll pick up on Monday with a big vial of it with the proper dose per ml.
It was a pain in the butt to do this because I had to draw out 8 syringes worth of the heparin, 2 of the lidocaine, and the sodium bicarb is what they use on crash carts.....hardly the easy way of doing this. He said he will order all the proper things for me and by next month I'll be able to do this with a lot less work! I felt like a nurse again, flicking the syringes, wiping them with alcohol and trying to keep everything sterile.
I had to use what I thought was a 12 fr because they're ordering my caths for me....I looked at it and it's a 14!!!! And, I have no lidocaine jelly yet. Talk about pain!!! It hurt so bad when I cathed myself I really dont want to do it again---and the only option I have is to sterilize this cath again and give myself the sodium bicarb and lidocaine because, of course, I only had enough heparin for one dose. Hopefully this will continue to give me relief til Monday.
Arrrrrrrrrgh...what a pain! Literally! Hopefully this will become easier....but now I feel more comfortable and am feeling that sweet relief I felt the other day!!!
OH! And it only cost me 38 dollars!!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT!? At least something worked out the right way!
