ok, so i know people have probably already posted this exact same question, but does anyone have any helpful hints when it comes to insomnia? here is an example of my typical week....

i put the kids to bed sunday night and take a shower (if i feel like it, might wait till morning) then i go to bed, well atleast i atempt to...i watch the clock go from 9:00 pm to 3 or 4 am and may fall asleep around 430 or 5. in the mean time i have turned on a movie that bores me to tears usually, but that doesnt work, so i try the relaxing music i bought for my kiddos to help them relax and hopefully sleep...it didnt work on them or me...i cant turn everything off, because i need light, a long story short...my older bro made me unable to be in the dark, and a nightlight doesnt give enough light so the bathroom light stays on, lol. the alarm wakes me at 7am to get the oldest up and off to school. by the time he is out the door the 2 yr old is up and doesnt stop even when i put him down for a nap(so i can work on the house) i pick up the kindergartener from school, give them both a snack, play for a little while, fix supper and bathe them. have them in bed by 8 pm and start all over again.

now dont get me wrong i have enogh meds in my bed side table that i could probably find something to knock me out but i have to watch what i take because i have weird reactions to some combos of meds. last night alone i took: elmiron, benadryl, tramadol, birth control, elivail and paxil...however if i take all those i cant take my sleepaid...so if anyone has any ideas i would be greatful, and so would my family....i am usually exhasted all day long, but the minute my head hits the pillows my eyes refuse to close. thanks ahead of time. :bonk: im almost to the point i am going to ask my hubby to bonk me on the head so i can get some sleep, lol :loco: :biglaugh:

I found that taking benadryl and Vicodin together kept me up for hours. Normally one benadryl would really make me tired, and two would have knocked me out. And the Vicodin would have made me a little tired. But together? I'm watching Jay Leno and the Home Shopping Network all night.

Who knows if your meds are having an impact, but it's something to consider. And if so, you could change when you take one of them.

Good luck.

I cant take tramadol at night, I found out it keeps me up and awake. Maybe if you take it during the day, like at noon.

I think Paxil can cause sleep disturbance. Have you taken it long?

hydroxizine helps you sleep, have you tried that? also I take 5 to 10 mg of ambien.. I haven't been able to get mine in a couple of weeks so I am draging from lack of sleep..
there is a new sleep aid out calle lunesta.. ask your doctor to give you a scritp and see if it helps.. I never had a had time sleeping till I got IC, fibro.. and all the other things that go with it.. I wish you luck, and keep us posted on how you are.

How much Elavil do you take? Are you up around 50mg? It has worked for me for about 15 years.
Also, watch some of the other medications. Percocet if I took after 4:00 would keep me up.

I have severe insomnia right now due to anxiety. I tried Ambien and it knocked me out but only for like an hour. My psychiatrist prescribed Seroquel for me to sleep and I have taken it the last 2 days and it works wonders. Gave me a full deep sleep all night. It's something you may consider looking into. Ann

Ultram if you take at night keeps some people awake . I also take elavil 75 mg . at night . It helps me sleep. Try drinking chamille tea that relaxs me when I can't sleep . I also drink sleepytime tea.
