This is bizarre but I'm noticing a pattern. I have so much swelling from the neurontin/motrin so I've had a lasix Rx. for years. It's the only diuretic I can tolerate and it's white (no dyes) so it doesn't make me itch. It's one of the few oral meds. I can actually handle passing through without pain although I do have pain related to the rapid filling for about 4 hours. But I'm noticing after it's out of my system that the rest of the day is decent and my night is much improved esp. if I take it early afternoon. Sometimes I take 20mg. and sometimes 40mg. depending on how swollen. In the past I was only taking it once in awhile but since I've noticed improvement after, I'm taking it on the days I hurt really bad. The only other diuretic I took was one dose of HCTZ (hydrodiuril) which about killed me. Now this makes no sense to me at all that lasix would help IC pain. Is it possible that whatever it is that passes through my urine that burns the wall, that the lasix makes me dump a bunch of it at once and slows down the production for the rest of the day? I know we have some people on the site with extensive medical knowledge so I'd love to hear your thoughts and also wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

Hmmm. Interesting. I don't really know. I have a couple theories; one is like yours in that perhaps you are washing bladder irritants out faster when you've got increased output after taking the Lasix. The other thing is, I've heard some IC patients mention that if their bladder fills beyond the volume they usually urinate out, it hurts like heck for a while but afterwards things improve. I suppose it could have something to do with the same effect a hydro can have... but I'm leaning towards the theory that you're washing out your system faster.

However, I don't know for sure. It sure is an interesting question though.
