Oh my gosh! They tried to have me wear one, for me it was a nightmare. It finally came out when I had a bowel movement and I vowed I would never have another one. Look I feel anything is worth a try if it cannot physically harm you or have long lasting bad effects. I do hope it works better for you than for me. It was not good as far as having sex for either of us. I dont know if it was improperly fitted or the wrong type, but I do remember it was just a bad experience. Judith

Hi Romans,
I have not had a pessary but found out my bladder is dropped and pressing on the urerethra only about half my bladder empties out. This doctor (a new one) doesn't feel I have IC. Have you had a hysterectomy, I have they are talking about doing surgery and making a sling.

Nope I have all my parts still, and so far that part still works right:)! Good luck on your decision! My doctor is "Not a Surgery Man" when it comes to bladder problems and mine isn't bad enough for surgery anyway!

Romans, My doctor talked with me about the pessary today. I do have some prolapse of the bladder but no incontience issues.Since my instills don't seem to be helping, they are thinking of trying the pessary to see if that may help since I'm also having some unknown pelvic pain. Went for a CT scan today, so we aren't gping to make any decisions for sure until we get the results of the CT scan. Will have to talk to my doctor alot more so I understand the pessary thing and why they think it might help.

Dr. Payne at Stanford felt that many IC patients did not tolerate pessaries due to the pressure they put on the bladder. There's no reason why you couldn't at least give it a try. Everyone's different.
A gyno I consulted with for prolapse also was very much against pessaries, in general.
However, I have a girlfriend who has used one for 10 years and avoided surgery all this time because it works for her!

Everyone is so different with a pessary, The are a defineate thing to try at first. It saves alot of extra visits and surgery. If it can work for you.

:hi: I love your positive thankfulness for even IC! This is also my conclusion I the matter!
I just got a pessary Monday and have felt better than I have in the two years I have had "severe IC" as diagnosed by cysto with hydro. I really hope we are on to something!

I would love to hear stories about how IC has actually been a blessing!

The pessary does seem to be helping me! I think it can't hurt to give it a try.

I am glad I agreed to try it and plan to keep it as it seems to relieve a lot of my pain. I am planning to get things fixed with surgery in Jan 2012 or so.

I have a pessary and have used occasionally. I find sometimes it causes me to cramp and sometimes it helps with the pressure. I suggest giving it a try and see what it does for you. I also have a prolapse of uterus and vagina, cystocele, rectocele. I am having surgery in December to repair the cysto and rectoceles and the vagina proplapse and the uterus taken out. I will post how I feel afterwards. I hope to be somewhat better I am not expecting to be totally pain free but at least somewhat better.

Hi Shelly,
how is the pessary wearing going? I had one and I gave it back to my uro! I had a level or stage 3 cystocele. The pessary against my bladder was totally out of the question because of the inflammed bladder I could not wear it! I ended up getting the bladder sling 3 months ago. My bladder feels so much better since the surgery and the pressure of it being low is gone! I do believe that my IC is better since I had the surgery also. Please let me know how the pessary is working out for you.

Please be sure to take it easy and follow the instructions of the doc! You may feel better and want to do more but you should continue to rest so that you heal properly! Almost 6 months post op and my IC is a lot better since my repairs!
Wishing you a speedy recovery,
Aleet7
