MY NEW UROLOGIST JUST PRESCRIBED IMIPRAMINE TO REPLACE ELAVIL.
He says it works better with Elmiron combined.
I never took one yet. Just wondering if anyone has
Thanks

Mary,
I have taken it before because I have trouble with Elavil. I had virtually no side effects at all.

A nurse just mentioned this drug to me today. I am thinking about switching to it, from elavil. I have mood swings. . I don't know if I can contribute them to the elavil completly, but, when I am depressed, it seems to intensify it.
And, I have heard it helps more with frequency and urgency - elavil has done nothing for me in those respects.
Am wondering, at what dose are you taking it?
Please let us know how you do on the IMIPRAMINE .
Janice
PS - And, Barb, if you don't mind, what trouble did you have with Elavil, that you didnt have with the imipramine?

I've been on imipramine for 3 years - started off with 25mg, now up to 50mg. I could'nt live my life without it. I went from high frequency at night and constant chronic pain, to reduced frequency (only twice a night on good days) and only breakthrough pain now, which I manage with pain meds. So it has been amazing for my frequency. But as they say, each person is different. Good luck with it!
I tried imipramine because of all the side-effects that I first experienced with Elavil. Unfortunately, it did nothing for me; so I had to switch back to Elavil.
I'm glad to hear that a lot of you are doing so well on it. Not all patients respond equally to the same drug. If one doesn't work, then ask your doctor for another.
Many patients in my support group are now taking Cymbalta, instead of Elavil and are doing really well. I've changed from Elavil to Topamax and that's worked very well for me. So if the change doesn't work for you, ask your healthcare provider for something else.
I suggest that you consult with your healthcare provider if you believe that the information above may be helpful; your healthcare provider will determine the appropriate treatment regimen for you.

I could not tolerate imipramine. I actually felt better after I stopped it.

I take Imipramine... 25mg/3 times daily. It has really helped me! The first few days my doctor increased my dose I was really sleepy and felt druged, but I've adjusted now. I haven't noticed any side effects from it.
