Hi
Just wondering if anyone has tried MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)? I am trying it but have only been taking it a few weeks? I have pamplet from Swiss Natural Sources and it mentions using it for IC..
Thanks

I use MSM. I buy it online from a particular company because the MSM is 99%pure; some have fillers. I have been using it for about a year now. I am also on elmiron, atarax and celebrex, so I can't say what's working the best-- but the supplements don't seem to hurt so I continue taking them. It has helped my hair and nail growth..... liz

I use MSM, orally, the gel and instill it! It has been a major piece of my IC care! It helps A LOT!
I use the one from Jacob's Lab!

I bought a bottle of MSM from a health food store and was always leary of trying it. My pain was so severe (24/7) at that time (I didn't know that I had endo as well) that I didn't want to cause any more unwanted pain. It is suppose to do wonders...I think that I may try it again.
Actually, DMSO is a derivative of MSM, and DMSO has helped a bit.

Actually MSM is a derivative od DMSO. It is often called DMSO 2. It is like DMSO without the smell or pain!!!!

I use MSM every day, both topical gel and oral powder. I bought both products directly from Dr. Jacobs who is the researcher/developer of DMSO and MSM treatments for many ailments. I started with the powdered form about two months ago and although I was doing pretty well at the time, I can say I feel even better now--I am pain free 90% of the time and when I do have pain it is very minor. I am up to about 10 grams a day of the oral MSM and plan to continue to take it indefinitely. According to Dr. Jacobs it can take several months for some people to notice the effects, so if you do try it, I would do so for several months.

Hi
Thanks for the replies. I am now taking two 500mg a day. The things that it is good for is what got my interested.. and then when I saw IC mentioned, that was a bonus. :)
I have not seen the topical -- is it like an ointment???

What if you rub it on your lower abdomen suprapubically over the bladder? Would it permeate the skin and help???
I used to take it and stopped. I think I should restart. Is it safe to take with Elmiron?

I got the MSM liquid but am afraid to use it for fear of flaring up my IC! I got if from Jacob's lab.
I'm going through another vag yeast flare-up so the pelvic pain is bad again. I think I am going to have to be on something prophylactically for the yeast....something more regimented. diet and probiotics alone are not helping me.
anyway, do you think it would be ok to start the MSM now while I am treating the yeast with Nystatin and diflucan? and.....How much should I take?
What is the normal msm dosage?
thanks,

Yes MSM is actually helpful in fighting yeast! The book on MSM said to start out with 1/2 tsp. 2x a day and work up to 3tsp 2x a day. I take 2tsp 2x a day.

OK....here goes. I am going to give it a try with half a teaspoon. I also started a babydose of Oral Nystatin Powder this afternoon. Something has to give. I've got to get this in check as it is making me miserable in more ways than one. It's affecting my whole body!
thanks for the info! :)
hope you are feeling ok...........

Hi
Just wondering -- is that a liquid or a powder that you take in tsp..??? Mine is in pill form...Seems that is all they have in our local Pharmacy. In fact they had to order the 500mg ones for me.. They had the 1000mg but I wanted to start with a low dose first.. There are so many things that it supposidly good for..I am hoping this helps me..

So how do you apply the gel? Right on the urinary area or around it?
sjackso

I apply the gel suprapubically (the skin area under which the bladder is located). It is absorbed into the tissue and organs (the bladder) immediately below where it is applied.

I also apply it suprapublically but I also use it on the urethal area too every time I go to the bathroom. With doing that I have very little burning but when I don't I KNOW IT!

I took the MSM stuff for a few months, but I couldn't really tell if it was working or not, so I stopped. It didn't give me any bad side effects, but it did give me a fairly odd one. For about a week after I took it, I felt as if the taste of my saliva and the smell of my body had been slightly altered. Sounds crazy, huh? It didn't really smell gross or anything, it was just different from how I was before... kind of onion-soup-ish :lmao:
Anyway, I guess that I stopped noticing that after a week or two. This was on the pill capsule form of MSM, taken twice a day. Anyone else have that side effect?
Romans8:28

I have not noticed this side effect but all MSM is not the same! I get mine from Jacob's Lab. MSm does take a long time to work, it's a slow healer, which is why it's better to use it in a combination of ways!

romans,
does the MSM liquid irritate your stomach?
Romans8:28
10-31-2005, 02:30 AM
I've read it can, which is why Dr. Jacob's says to start out at only 1/2 tsp 2x a day and work up. I have a very sensitive stomach but have not had any problem.
