Hello, wanted to give you some history on me. I had urgency and frequency beginning at age 15, thats 23 years ago. Saw a urologist who tested me for diabetes, no luck, thought about the symptoms and decided they were psychosomatic. :loco: Lived with it for a very long time and decided to give it one more shot before giving up on finding a cure.
Got some good health insurance recently and saw another urologist and he diagnosed me with an enlarged prostate. Did the flomax thing, with no luck. So we decided to do the pvp or green light laser therapy. It burns away the excess tissue in the prostate. This is were is really got fun. After the surgery, I developed a burning sensationand severe pain in my bladder and urethra. The urologist told me this is normal, yes, but for three months? My urologist felt he had done enough and sent me on my way with a prescription of Prosed. It didn't do a thing for me, I still had the burning and severe pain in my bladder and to top it off, urgency and frequency. I had a really bad time of it recently and called to schedule an appointment with him again, and as luck would have it he was on vacation. :woohoo:
Saw his partner who listened to my symtoms, urgency, frequency, and now burning and severe pain. He postulated it was ic and immediately put me on Elmiron for ic, and enablex for OAB. I take a antihystamine as well and it seems to help with some of my symptoms. Can't say for sure how it will turn out, but I do respond very well to meds and side effects are never an issue with me. My new urologist told me I should see some improvement in 1 to 3 months but should give it 1 year for complete success.
I've begun the ic diet, and have elimated some foods from my list already. Looking forward to shedding some weight on this diet as well.
Here are some stats, I go to the restroom once an hour during the day, and once every two hours at night. Don't get much sleep, just get into rem and whammo, have to go to the bathroom. Sometimes, the pain hurts so much I think I might have to replace the porcelin in the bathroom. :biglaugh:
Anyways thats the readers digest version of my life.

Welcome. You might want to think about trying Elavil so you can get some sleep at night. Start low because it makes you VERY tired in the morning but that does go away.
