Check out the following information from Nutra Pharma Corp. who is promoting U101 a "new" thing from Dr. Parsons in California and Stellar Pharmaceuticals.

I kind of doubt any of this is really new, but they claim they are. Is anyone using them??????????Urigen Inc. Opens IND For Phase IIb Clinical Trial With Novel Treatment For Interstitial Cystitis

VANCOUVER, British Columbia and SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Urigen Inc. today announced that the United States FDA has accepted the company's investigational new drug (IND) application to initiate a Phase IIb clinical trial with its lead product, U101.

U101 is a proprietary intravesical formulation of FDA-approved components that has been demonstrated to provide near-immediate relief of symptoms associated with interstitial cystitis. The results of a successful open-label Phase IIa study were published in the Journal of Urology in February 2005 and demonstrated that administration of U101 reduced the pain and urgency associated with interstitial cystitis in patients treated with the therapy. (J. Urology 65: 45-48, 2005.)

Urigen's Phase IIb clinical trial is a prospective, randomized, double- blind, placebo-controlled Phase II study of U101 in adult subjects with chronic pelvic pain and urgency of bladder origin. The objective of the study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of U101 in a multi-center trial.

and this....

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2005-- Uracyst Receives Insurance Reimbursement Approval In Germany Stellar Pharmaceuticals Inc. (it's glousamine sulfate, I think)

That's cool! I found a article on it on the internet. It sounds like this is still in the clinical trial phase.

The more treatments there are for IC the better we will get!

Thanks for sharing the info!

I heard about this one. It does sound promising --- unfortunately it does take a lot of time to go through the FDA process before it's approved for all of us.

Isn't this just heparin/lido/bicarb premixed which wouldn't be different than what people have already been mixing themselves?

In Germany Pohl-Boskamp is selling "Uropol-S" (sine this or last year I guess) which is "Chondroitinsulfat" (i hope it's the same word in english??) and I would think Uracyst-(R) should be the same.... :hmm:

Here is their website
http://www.urigen.com/

I cannot figure out what sort of med this is...a pill? Instill?
Seems like they have Dr Parsons as a spokesperson. I thought he was such an Elmiron guy...I wonder why he is changing now?

I flew to San Diego from Chicago to see Dr. Parsons. He isn't only an elmiron guy but works with all the new treatments. He wants to help his patients and some patients like me can't take elmiron. Every patient responds differently to each treatment option. We all want to same thing to get results.

I respect Dr. Parson's opinions on IC. I read all his articles and I think that he is extremely well-educated on IC. What I meant about the Elmiron guy remark was that he always says how it is so well tolerated and that it is the best therapy for IC, and seems so positive that it will work. Reading his presentations on Elmiron gave be the courage to start it in the first place! I am curious to what else he wanted you to try since you can't take the Elmiron?

I am excited that he is backing this new drug (or whatever it is). I hope that it works as well as the hype and that it will be available soon. I would like to know what it is, though!

"U101 is a proprietary intravesical formulation"

"Intravesicular therapies" = installations
http://www.aafp.org/afp/20011001/1199.html

"Oral treatments of interstitial cystitis include pentosan polysulfate, tricyclic antidepressants and antihistamines. Intravesicular therapies include hydrodistention, dimethyl sulfoxide and heparin, or a combination of agents"

Okay ladies, I called his office. He is packaging heprin, lidocane and sodium bicarb for home installation use and to market it to the doctors. It's not "new" to us, but "new" to the FDA to package it together.

Oh....
That is really a letdown...
I am not even able to get instillations yet, I am supposed to try the oral meds first (says my doctor)

I really hoped this was something new all together...

I was really hoping this would be the magic pill.

I read that U101 is an intravesical treatment. It's instilled inside the bladder and is alkalinized heparin and lidocaine. It's supposed to relieve pain immediately and sounds very promising. They are still doing trials and I can't wait until it becomes available to the rest of us soon. We desperately need something that works better than the current bladder instillations.

I am sorry ladies, I have been on this New stuff since June and for me it has helped, 80% but I am also on Elmiron 400mg. I thinks its a combination of the 2 drugs.

Ok I'm confused. I thought U101 was just pre-packaged lido/hep/bicarb which I've already bombed on. How would that relate to THC?

I am also very confused. Does anyone know where to find difinitive information about this?

mlb

I believe U101 is entirely different from the drug being developed with the THC in it. U101 is a pre-packaged rescue installation and the other is entirely different. Research "INDEVUS Pharmaceuticals. They are the ones doing the THC drug.

I'm sorry about the misinformation, I have corrected my post. I must have confused it with another new drug. I don't understand either why this is something they are conducting trials for when it's not a new bladder instillation. It's been done for years. There's another new drug though that contains THC, don't remember the name of it.
