Do any of you that have vulvodynia, experience flares after eating black pepper? I love black pepper and eat it all the time. I read today that it can cause problems with vulvodynia. I know everyone is different but I am just curious as to how acurate this is? I am really just starting to learn all the dos and don'ts of IC and just happened across this info.

I have vulvadynia and IC and don't seem to have a problem with black pepper. Tomato sauce and strawberries have been the most noticeable flares for me so far.
Did you look at the low oxalate diet list yet? http://www.branwen.com/rowan/oxalate.htm
Pepper is considered medium oxalate on this site.

Thank you for the link. I have seen one version in the A Taste of the Good Life cookbook, but I have not seen this one.

I went to Applebee's today and they put alot of black pepper on their food. I have been in a horrible flare since! Try to drink alot of water to flush it out if you have to eat it. Maybe that will help!

I started having problems with Vulvodynia over 4 years ago. Looking back I think it may have been around the time that I started using fresh ground peppercorn vs. the regular shaker pepper… I absolutely love fresh ground pepper…Since I read that it can cause problems I have only been using the regular pepper very sparingly…
Between the pepper and the chocolate that I used to eat (knowing what I know now)…its no wonder I have been having problems.
