Hi All,
Thought I'd check in and let anyone who is interested know that I am scheduled for my botox injections on November 3. I don't know whether I am nervous or excited or what. I'm just hoping that I may get some relief from this terrible frequency. Anyway I'll let you all know how I'm doing after the injections.
For those who have had the botox injections, I was wondering whether I would be in any pain after the procedure. Any comments would be welcome.
Bye for now,
George

Hi again Barb,
I've found some really helpful people on this Botox board. There have been several people who have had some good results with botox and I am hoping for the same. I don't have pain but frequency is my main problem. You and I might end up having our injections at the same time. We can recuperate together and compare notes!! Do let me know what is happening after your next uro appointment. I'll keep you up to date with my progress as well.
Bye for now,
George :)
Thats great news George. Fingers crossed that it works for you. I will keep an eye out for your progress reports.

Good luck with the botox injections! are they using it to control frequency or pain.
My old uro mentioned it to me aobut a year ago but then I moved and never gave it another thought. I wish I had more information for you but all I can do is wish you luck and relief of symptoms.
please let us now how you are.

George! I'm glad you got your appointment scheduled. As far as pain after the procedure everyone is different. I requested to come home with an indwelling catheter for a couple of days so for me I was able to rest and did not experience any frequency or discomfort that can be caused just from having the procedure. I did take Lortab (hydrocodone) for about 2 weeks actually. The told me it tooka bout 7 days for the botox to kick in and start to feel better but for me it was about 14 days. BUT when it kicked in it really helped! Since you don't have pain on the front end that could be or benefit to you as well. I chronic severe pain with my IC and then tend to have increased pain after procedures. I think you probably will do great. The only complication people have is urinary retention. I have not had that except maybe real minor in the first few weeks. I also am a "self cather" so when I feel like I am retaining I just pull out a catheter and take care of it so I don't get uncomfortable or develop an infection. Well, I hope this helps you. I would request pain meds if I were you as well as a urinary analgesic like urelle, prosed, pyridium etc... Feel free to ask questions anytime and I will try to answer them!

Hi George,
I had botox injections for the 7th time August 26th. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
The questions about pain - the first time I did wake up in pain but then my uro started using Lidocaine too and I woke up vertually pain free. That pain free feeling right after waking up only last for a couple of days and then I feel sore and sometimes a little irritated for about two weeks. Then I feel pretty good. It really helps with urgency and frequency, I was going nearly 30 times a day now I only go about 10 - 12. I still have pain but it is much more manageable.
The first time he just injected my bladder and that helped but it really helped when I had my urethra injected. Then the best was this last time when he injected the bladder, urethra, pelvic floor muscles, bartolin and vestibule glands and the pudendal nerve.

So is the botox primarly for pain? I can understand how it would help PFD because it woud temporarily parlyze those muscles but how does it help with bladder IC pain.
I hope that the prcedure goes well for you and am glad that so many others have had results with it!

I'm jealous. My doctor does not know anything about it and refuses to learn. Good luck. I hope it is the miracle you have been waiting for.

Good luck. I've done two rounds of botox and it helped me with freq-urg but not pain. Since you don't have pain your all set. My advice to you is rest after the injections and don't push yourself. Even though you aren't being cut it is still surgery. I loaded up on magazine, movies and had my laptop close at all times. The people on the boards really offer wonderful support. I hope botox works well for you.

Good luck!
So if Botox works for frequency, but not pain, do you still need to take pain meds (for those of us with both problems)?
Is anyone in the current Botox trial?

Hi Janice,
I'm not sure about pain. I have frequency only. Perhaps some of the others will answer.

I have the frequeny/urgency and severe pain with my IC. The botox has helped both tremendously. I have NO frequency or urgency unless I drink or eat a trigger food or have an occasional flare up day. As far as pain I have begun pain management and where before I could take high doses of pain meds and have no relief well now with the pain management meds I am basically pain free. So for me it has been wonderful all the way around! Good luck with yours!

Its good to here that Botox is working for you. This is one thing my doctor is considering if I don't get relief from the dilation done last Fri. Where can I get more information on Botox.

To mom/ic
If I'm not mistaken I believe I read on another thread of "Managing Pain" you said that you were so relieved that you were given pain meds and were practically pain free. Reading this post is contradictory to what you said before about pain meds. Anyway, I'M glad botax along with pain meds has given you total relief.

Marsi4,
My post is a little misleading. The "before" I was referring to when I needed large amounts of pain meds was before the botox. Since botox I do still have pain but it is world better and coupled with the pain management it is virtually non-existent. Definately the botox helped relieve my pain by at least 75%! I didn't start pain management until after the botox so it is easy for me to judge.
Sorry it was misleading.

I read that other post again and it is really hard to understand. The bottom line is that I was in terrible shape before botox and needed large doses of med to get minimal relief. After botox the frequeny and urgency is gone unless I have a flare up and the pain is much better to the point that with the meds and less meds, too I can make the pain go away for most of the day. I am sleeping through the night, too. We went out to eat tonight and I peed before we left at 5:00 pm and didn't go again until 11 pm and that was with drinking 3 Dr. Peppers with supper! Pretty amazing for me!
