hi friends as you know i have an ovaian cyst that has started shrinking after i started bcp last month. The side effect of this bcp seems to be severe back pain.I don't know if the pain is coming from the pill or something else but it's left sided and the cyst is also in my left ovary.
I was confused between trying a new pill Apri versus the old pill Sprintec. The Apri could come with new side effects so i decided to stick to the old one, besides this was the one that helped the ovarian cyst.
Now y'day nite i started my old pill sprintec and plan to take it for one more month to help shrink the cyst and then plan to stop it as per my doc's advice. My doc thinks i need bc pills only for a month more.I told him i wanted to stop for this one month and then go back on it next month, and he said that was also fine but said medically he would recommend taking it for this month as the cyst will go away faster.
The thing is this month is going to be busy for me as my parents have come and my back pain has started this morning again just after one pill that i took y'day evening...so
1)I want to know if you think it's ok to take painkillers while on the pill.
I have read in many places that it might not be good,so has anyone been taking them while on bc pills?
2)I was also wondering if this pain gets too much is it ok to stop the pill mid-cycle?
Please do reply
thanks

Hi, I have been on bc pills on a constant basis for the last 13 years due to my polycystic ovarian disease. I take painkillers while on bc pills. I have taken Tylenol, Advil, various types over the years including prescribed ones. If you are on bc pills and prescribed an antibiotic then you need to be concerned because antibiotics cancel out oral contraceptives.

I would check with your doctor regarding stopping the bc pill mid-cycle.

Hi,

Dont know where you read this info but you should be able to take tylenol, at the very least, while taking the bcp....If you have any further questions you should probably call the doctor and ask, but I've never heard of any restrictions like that with the bcp's I took (BUT, that was several years ago)

Do NOT stop those pills mid cycle, you'll screw up your menstrual cycle. If you start the month, finish the month, unless your doctor tells you something different. Just keep in mind that these pills regulate/alter your cycle, and if you don't take the pills as they are prescribed then you really could have side effects that are undesirable.

Hope things go ok for you this month, and you have fun with your parents :)
