I was diagnosed with IC last November.
I am having a procedure on Wednesday and have no idea what to expect. They are putting Uracyst and catheter in at the hospital and that's about all I know. Does it hurt when they put the catheter in or do they give you any meds? Is there pain during and afterwards? I have to have the procedure 1 a week for a month, then once a month for three months, then I'm not sure what happens after that. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mary

It sounds like what you will be having is bladder instillations. You can read about them in the Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook

When you have a bladder instillation, they put in a catheter, then put medicine directly into the bladder through the catheter. Usually then the catheter is removed and the medication stays in the bladder until you urinate. Sometimes the catheter is left in for up to 1/2 hour, then the medication is drained through the catheter.
