I need to know if anyone else has started wellbutrin xl and they immediately had flare ups? I have tried countless antidepressants and a lot give me side effects. Wellbutrin xl helps the energy and the depression but my bladder is in so much pain. SSRI's help my bladder but not my depression. Anyone else have these problems.
Thank you
christina :)

Hi, Christina, every single antidepressant I tried (including Wellbutrin, Paxil, Prozac, and the tricyclics) have made my bladder flare either a little or a lot. I seem to have horrible luck with almost all meds, including those that are supposed to help IC patients.
So, if you find that you flare from certain drugs, know that you aren't alone.
Blessings, Lori

Hi,
Thank you very much for your kind words. I am fine with zoloft, celeza and anafranil but the side effects are horrible. It just stinks i find a medicine for my depression and then this starts. I personally rather have depression then my bladder hurt.''

My IC started the second day I took Wellbutrin. Even though I stopped it immediately, the IC never went away. Of course, I'd also stopped taking the b/c pill I'd been on for 10 years around then too, so that could've triggered the IC too.

I'm with IC Lori--all antidepressants burn my bladder terribly; can't tolerate them at all. It's so frustrating not to be able to take the medicines that seem to help others. I thought Wellbutrin would be the answer, but it wasn't. Now I've tried them all . . .
I've had trouble with many of the SSRI's - Paxil gave me nausea & a headache. Lexapro made me exhausted all the time & I gained weight. Wellbutrin started the IC off or brought it out of wherever it was lurking. Effexor made me feel completely stoned, one dose of that was horrid & would never touch it again.
On the bright side, Elavil (a tricyclic antidepressant) has helped my IC significantly, reduced my frequency, restored my ability to sleep, reduced pain too. I've gained weight on it, but am starting to lose it. I don't think I'd have gained so much weight if I'd stayed aware of portion sizes & exercise levels...

Neither wellbutrin or effexor has caused me any discomfort. The wellbutrin offsets the side affects of the effexor pretty well.
On the other hand, zoloft almost drove me completely over the edge.
Everybody is different. What works well for one person may not be correct for another.
Started elavil this week for pain. Relief for the first time in 6 months. Narcotics not near as good for me. Just the 10mg is enough for me to be almost pain free.
