mental exam

hi all , i found out today there semding me to a shrink to see if i am nutz, thing is i never put mental problem on my claim, only claims are ic,and asthma and 6 surgeries 3 are complete and 3 are pending. they are anterior cervical fusion, ulnar nerve transpositions both arms, dead bone removal in both feet and joint replacement in right hand recovery is aproxmita 2 years total but why the mental exam and what should i expect thank you jaymz

Jaymz-they put my brother through the same thing. Just go in and be honest. They are making sure you are not a hypochondriac-that is what he thought anyways. Good luck.

Welcome! You'll find TONS of info and support here...

I wouldn't worry about the mental exam, it could end up working to your benefit. Be painfully honest... let them know how this affects every aspect of your life... I can't tell you what to say, don't know your whole story, but don't be afraid to "dump it all" on the doc, after all, this WAS their idea! :)

Don't know if you've had your appointment yet but thought I'd tell you about mine. It was really comical---he had me remember 3 words throughout our 30 minute conversation---car, tree, apple....pretty sure those were it. And he basically just talked to me the rest of the time. I had to count 30 from 100, which is 70...simple things like that.

Asked me if I'd ever been depressed...but mostly what I found was that he was just another SS employee who really didn't want to be there anymore than I did.

It was pretty much a waste of time, and the gov't money..but what else is new? I was denied the first time around, but won my appeal in front of a judge who said it never should have gotten that far, and that I should have been granted my case the first time around.

Just our government at work.....

ty all for the info, all i did was apply for disability for all these surgeries i need, i should be able to work 2 years from my 1st surgery now there sendin me to a shrink and an internal medicine exam??? wth is that anyone know? i'm frakin now, it would be easier to jump off a bridge than deal with all this lol well peace and God bless jay
