Hello,

I have not been given a clear dx. My symptoms are frequency, frequency frequency!!! I have never had pain. The first Uro I said I have OAB. I started on Enablex and was doing well. Then my father passed away and my symptoms came back. He then put me on another antibiotic. (I have been on 6 in the past 4 months. He then did on treatment of DSMO. I did not like that uro so I changed to antoher one. He put me on Elmiron and vesicare. Elmiron gives me diarrhea so I stopped taking it. Some days are better than others.

My husband is giving me grief. I think he thinks I am a hypochondriac.

I have been following the diet!! I have a Md's appointment this afternoon and are in need of some suggestions as to what to tell him I should try.

please help!!
Diane

diane,
along with elmiron, probably the two most common drugs are hydroxyzine (an antihistime that has anti anxiety benefits and also helps with mast cells in the bladder,) and elavil an antideppresant which when given in small doses often helps ic pain. Good luck with the doctor. Spend a lot of time on the site when you can and read everthing you can in the patient's handbook. The diet can help a lot. Let us know how it goes at the doctors.

Thanks. It seems it is commen to have pain with IC, and I never have. Maybe I just have OAB. My first Uro looked inside my bladder and and could not give an accurate dx. Is OAB treated the same as IC?

Thanks

It is really very difficult to find IC. My uro told me that in his practice he never saw pinpoints or ulcers in the bladder when he did Cystoscopy & Hydro-distention for his patients. But they had symptoms of classic IC. As a nurse I understand that IC has many different symptoms and it's very "wide" dx.
It's can be just sensitive bladder for allergy, food, chemicals and ext., or can be more another things. So, don't be scary about this dx and that it will be forever. It's very important to find the right treatment for individual person and diet, diet, diet.....and believing for wellness.

No, usually IC is treated more aggressively than OAB; often just meds like Detrol, Ditropan, Vesicare, etc do the trick for OAB. HOWEVER, that's not to say that if you do have mild IC, you will need aggressive treatment -- some ICers can do just fine with diet modification and a med like those listed above!

I think seeking a second opinion is a good idea, and please let us know how it goes. Definitely check out our Patient Handbook (http://www.ic-network.com/handbook ) for lots of information and self help tips. :)

Hello,

i just goet back form my uro appointment. He did another scope and I actually got to see my bladder. He said I do not have the classic synptoms of IC. The backof my bladder has inflammation. He also did an elmiron installation. i asked him why I was being treated for IC when it does not appear to have it. He basically said to see if it helps. I am suppose to hold this stuff in for 2 hours.
He also started me on oxytrol (patch) to help with the frequency. He also gave me a rx for ampytrilline?sp).
He mentioned that my bladder problems could be relatex to hormone changes as I just stopped nursing my son (13 months) and have only had my period once.
My husband is trying to be supportive, but it is difficult.
Thanks

It's possible that you have OAB but it could also be mild IC. Not everyone with IC has any signs, in the bladder, of IC but still have it.
The best way to rule out IC, in your case, is with a potassium sensitivity test since only an IC bladder with be irritated by it; if you don’t have IC you will not feel it
