Just wanted to say I had a great first visit with my doctor at the Pain Management Center I went to yesterday. He actually asked me what pain medicine I wanted. Told me there was everything from oxycotin to morphine to a pain patch. Asked me what pain meds. have worked for me in the past for other pain. We talked about long acting pain meds. or something more geared towards these awful flairs I seem to constantly have. I told him I would rather have something for the flares and not something to be on constantly, even though right now I'm having a horrid flare and I will be taking the meds. constantly. Just don't want to be drugged up all the time if by chance I'm having a half way good day. He is starting me on Norco 10-325. Very similiar to Vicoden. Told me to try them and see how they work for me and if we need to we can always switch to something else. Wish I had seen him 7 or 8 months ago when this IC came on like a vengence, but at least now maybe I will find some relief. Also wondering which pain meds. others here have found that work good for them. I know we are all different and meds. work differently on everyone. I wish everyone here could find a doctor who was as understanding about our pain as my doctor was yesterday.

I take Demerol but I don't have a lot of options when it comes to pain meds since I'm allergic to codeine, so I'm probably not any help
It helps me a lot but it makes me drowsy so I try not to take it more than once a day. Definitely a good pain med to take at night, though

Glad you had a good experience. :) I also go to an excellent pain clinic -- I take MS-Contin (long-acting morphine) and Percocet for breakthrough pain. You can see my whole list down in my signature.

I take norco as well...I take the 10/325's 1 tablet 4 times a day....thats what I'm rx'd to take. Usually though, I take 2, twice a day....bad I know, but taking one might as well be taking a tic-tack for me. My pain mgmt. doctor knows I do this sometimes and it's ok with him as long as I don't go over the number of pills per month that I'm allotted.

All my other pain meds are listed below. I'm on a real smorgasboard of them....if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

One thing with any pain medicine, take it when you first start to to notice the pain, because they work MUCH better that way. If you wait too long, and are already in severe pain, they just don't have the same effect.

Good luck, and hope they work for you!

I'm glad you found a good Dr - they're definately had to come by! :)
I've been on Norco in the past, and have found that it works well for me. Since you said that you seem to be having a constant flare, have you ever thought about Ultram? Even though it's not as strong as Norco, it helps my IC much better than any other narcotic (I've been on everything from Vicodin to Duragesic and everything in between). I take 100 mg of Ultram 3-4 times a day, everyday. I know there have been others who've posted about Ultram helping them more than the "stronger" stuff - I know Patricia is one. Maybe if you haven't tried it, you might want to consider it. I have been in a "flare" for the past 4 years, despite diet changes, instills, hydros, pt and other treatments. The main reason I prefer talking Ultram on a daily basis as opposed to stronger meds is that I'm afraid of becoming too tolerant to them again. While on Duragesic and Norco, I had surgery that nothing would stop the pain afterwards...it was a horrible experience! Anyway...just a thought. I'm so glad you've got a great pain management Dr and have found some relief! :)

I don't know much about Ultram, but I think I will research it some and talk to my pain management doctor about it when I see him again. I guess I was really kind of shocked when he straight out asked me what pain meds. I wanted to take instead of him saying this is what I'll prescribe and that's it.

Ultram works very well for me. And it's much easier to get doctors to order it than other pain medications.

yes ultram is the same as tramadol. tramadol is the generic name for it. I just started seeing a pain management doctor about a week ago. He treated me as well as you say yours did. Asked me what I have tried, what worked best and what didn't work at all, how long it worked for, etc. I told him I tried darvocet, vicodin, and lortab and they barely touched the pain and he prescribed me oxycontin. I take 20mg 3 times a day of the extended release pills and it has helped me so much. I also take zanaflex for spasms and that really helps too. He was great though, told me not to be afraid to tell him if they only work for a little while, and also if they stop working for me to tell him and he will either up my dosage or try something else. I know a lot of women on here take oxycontin and it works for a lot of us. I hope you find what works best for you:) Take care, Amanda

I take Tylenol #3 when I am in pain. I don't have a lot of pain now since I've been taking the other meds prescribed. Although the last couple of days, I've been doing a lot of standing and that really gets to me. I took the tylenol all day yesterday and before I went to bed.

Hi, I have found that Gabapentin (400 mg) tabs help (they calm the bladder nerves) and Pydridum (200 mg) eases my discomfort and pain. I have also found that Gabapentin is very effective with respect to menstrual discomfort as well.
