Got another question for all of you...Are there any breakfast "meats" that can be eaten without causing flares? My mom, Kitty, the cute little southern girl that she is (only 4' 10') :) misses having some kind of breakfast meat. Before she developed IC, she enjoyed eating sausage or bacon, etc for breakfast. Do you think it's worth the risk to let her try the "meatless" breakfast products. You know the soy sausages links or patties. Does soy bother most ICers or just some. I'm kind of worried about letting her try this. She's 85 years young and when she's having a really bad flare, her BP shoots up to 190/125...sometimes even higher. Any advice??

I can eat any kind of bacon totally unlimited. I can eat some of the milder hams too as long as not too salty. Sausage is my big taboo breakfast meat. Cant tolerate it at all.

In the beginning, I stayed away from all breakfast meats, and just stuck with homemade French Toast, or pancakes ( I use Bisquick for the pancakes ) and real maple syrup, not the artificial stuff. It's a bit more expensive, but doesn't bother me and is super yummy! I also love biscuits and honey, again, thank goodness for Bisquick, lol.
As I have been on the meds, I can eat ham and bacon with no problems, haven't tried commercially prepared sausage, but I do make my own. I just buy fresh ground pork, add my own seasonings: salt, fennel seeds and maple syrup. Makes a yumm patty and I know there's nothing scary in it!! ;)
I would stay away from soy products, for me they are a big trigger food, soy flour etc. And I don't think you'd want to risk it with her. I am only 36 but, I know how miserable it makes me!! :)
Hope this helps a little bit!! P.S. I also make sausage gravy from my homemade patty drippings and make my favorite 'Biscuits and Gravy'. YUM!
