[COLOR=Blue]Okay, Ladies, this may sound kind of yukky and crazy to some of you, but have you ever tasted a "Ritz Cracker" mock (no apples) apple pie? It's a very old recipe that I had forgotten all about until recently. I can remember eating some when I was much younger. Granted...my taste buds may not have been as discriminating as they are now, but it really almost fooled me. Yeah, there's nothing like the "real" thing, but hey...it might just satisfy a craving for some hot apple pie ala mode. Heat up a slice and throw a nice big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and you could be in apple pie heaven. :woohoo:
Of course, this all depends on whether you are able to tolerate Ritz Crackers. There may well be some ingredients that could cause flare ups. But if you can eat the crackers, it might be a nice change for a special dessert. The recipe could be adjusted or changed a little to accomodate your diet. Perhaps lemon extract, which is okay for some, could be used in place of the lemon juice. I'm not sure if the same measured amount could be used. The recipe also calls for "cream of tarter" I have used it in recipes before, but I have no idea what it really is or why it was needed for the recipe. Does anyone know what the heck cream of tartar is?? Does it cause flares? Hmmmm... :hmm: the cinnamon could be a problem for some too. If you think you can tolerate the ingredients, you can find several mock apple pie recipes at www.cooksrecipes.com. Just use keywords mock apple pie in the search.
Peace & Blessings, Debkins
