Ok, first of all here is the relationship. My son's girlfriend's grandmother died tonight. We are also good friends with their whole family, so this isn't just a shoestring relationship for us at all. She lived almost a year fighting ovarian cancer (she was a spitfire, get ready angels!)

My question is, I want to do something, but I don't know what. They are quite wealthy and have housekeepers and caterers......so stuff like food and housekeeping are just not necessary. I will call them tomorrow.......I already sent a basket of flowers earlier this week, just as an encouragement........we knew it was close to her time..........

But what else.........my mom died in February and they were incredibly generous.........basically provided my family (including my brothers' families) with food for a week.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Perhaps a donation in her name to the cancer society or specifically to ovarian cancer research?

Depends on how much you want to spend. When my sister died, we took memorial money and did something for the clinic she worked at. You could plant a tree in her honor some place. This is really hard Julie, I will think on this and see if something else comes to me. When they have money like that the sentimental, lasting things would mean a lot I would think.

The most important thing is to just be there for them. A brief visit will do far more to help than all the gifts in the world. And if you can't visit, send a card with a note that they have been on your mind and are in your prayers.
