Hello....started taking Atarax 3 weeks ago. I take 25mg at bedtime. It helps me to sleep, which is great because I cannot fall asleep without the aid of something. I do find that I am somewhat sleepy in the morning, but I am finding that I have no energy during the day, and I feel as though I could sleep all day long. Is this from the Atarax? I've read here that some people switch to Benadryl, but my doctor made it seem to me that Atarax is more than just benadryl. Is it? If not, I could have saved my prescription cost, and taken the benadryl in my medicine cabinet!! Is exhaustion associated with IC? What can you do about it? I feel like I canaccomplish nothing during the day. I've been out of work for a few months due to a work related knee injury, and I can't imagine being able to function at work right now. Any answers are appreciated!!!!! :)

Hello sandy, I just tried taking atarax the other night for the first time and found that i was a complete zombie all the next day. I couldnt even get up with my 2 month old that night had to have hubby do it and then the next day i even took a 3 hr nap with my baby due to feeling so drowsy all day yes i do believe its from the atarax. I dont feel my ic causes me to be sleepy during the day i feel pretty good most days but i do have fibromyalgia and i know that can make me feel tired at times. I go for my weekly installs this friday so im going to ask about the atarax and benadryl atarax must be stronger or it wouldnt be a prescription. :) hopeful

Hi Sandy! I take hydroxzine also, and I am so glad I added it to my routine. I have been on 25mg at bedtime since Dec 2004. For me, the first few weeks were the hardest as my body adjusted to the med. I too was drowsy and groggy in the mornings, but that went away. The only time I have problems with it now, is if I take it too late at night. I have been trying to take a couple hours before bedtime, and that seems to help greatly.

Here's some info on why the hydroxyzine is beneficial to treating IC:

It was this info that promped me to ask my doc for an Rx of it!! Hope this helps you out a bit!! ;)

hugs!
