If after one of your UTI's, you get a yeast infection, do you use Monostat cream on your own, or do you go with the diflucan (sp), the pill form for yeast infection? (You know, once you test for a UTI, or finally go to the doctor because you can't figure out whether it's an infection or IC symptoms, :loco: ha ha)

I'm at that junction at this writing and am trying to decide if I should tell the doctor when I must speak with her tomorrow, or just do it on my own. Again, I'm sure you can all relate, the last thing I want to do is see the doctor AGAIN!

I've found that Monistat or Gyne Lotrimon actually give me what feels like a chemical burn. It's almost unbearable since I got IC. I now take Fluconazole (Generic Diflucan...alot cheaper too).

What I do is take an in home UTI test and if its negative, I move on to the next thing which is a toss up between Bacterial Vaginosis or Yeast....both can give you UTI like symptoms which can be very confusing. I keep Macrobid, Fluconazole and MetroGel on hand in case of all three (UTI, Bacterial Vaginosis or Yeast). I know its not a good practice but I have gotten to the point where I can almost diagnose myself from being through it so many times.

I've been surprised at how many times I thought I was having a bad flare ony to find that I had Bacterial Vaginosis or even yeast.

Most ICers do not like MOnistat..most creams to treat yeast bother a lot of ICers so unfortunatly Diflucan or similar meds help more. There are also a lot of other things that help yeast infections. I take Acidophilus everyday, and AZO Yeast when I feel symptoms....there is a lot more info on the Yeast board. :grouphug:

anytime I take an antibiotic I am sure to take something like acidophilus or another probotic to prevent that yeast infection that I know will come if I don't.

I like the difulcan better also I think its easier and you don't have that burning feeling like with the monistat plus for me it seems to give me relief quickly. I am the same way anytime I take an antibiotic I get a yeast infection it is aggravating you get over one thing and then get another. I am not sure if it really works but when my mom is on an antibiotic she eats yogurt while she is taking it she said it helps keep the yeast infection away.
