I used to have them too, no explanation other than the joys of IC, ugh. But, since it seems to be new for you, I would call the doctor's offic and tell them what's going on. Are you on any of the meds for that sort of thing? Like Ditropan, Detrol or hyoscyamine (ie Levsin etc)? I take Ditro and it helps me with those dreaded spasms, ;)
Best to call the doc though, see what they think!!
Hugs!

I am not on to ditropan because I don't have urgency and frequency with my ic. I took some pyruiduim and it helped some. I go to the uro on october 3 rd I will talk to him about it then thanks for the advice.

Oh you're welcome. My doc specifically gave me the Ditropan for the spasms I was complaining about, before I dx'd with IC. At that time, it just hurt to pee, and I told him it felt like my urethra was spasming, and boom - walked out with an RX for the Ditropan, for the spasms, since it relaxes the bladder muscle. I didn't realize either at that time what my frequency was, so it wasn't RX'd for that, just spasms.
Hugs!!

My uro gave me Detrol LA the other day for the spasms. You might want to try it. The spasms are one of my worst symptoms.....geez girl, we need to get you straightened out!

Ty Sandy How are you doing? I will ask about ditropan when I see my uro in 2 wks. I will tell him about the spasms at night.

I'm doing better, thanks for asking!
The only problem I have with the Detrol and ditropan are retention...apparently the Detrol LA he just put me on (that I keep forgetting to take) is not as bad with retention problems.
Dunno, but I've been having a lot of problems getting the flow started even before I started taking this again....not sure this is a good med for me.
Anyway, chin up girly, you know we're here for ya!
I take 5mg of Ditropan every night because my bladder spasms so much when I lie down to sleep, it used to feel like it was fluttering. This helps. Also, sleeping on my side with a small pillow between my knees & listening to CD's to relax as I go to sleep can help.

Thanks Kadi I will try that . I just realized I forgot to take my elavil last night wondering if that was it . I will take it tonight and still wake up with the bladder spasms I will know . I am going to mention it to my uro in 2 wks. I am also starting heparin and lidocaine instills when I seem him on the 3rd so hopefully that will help also. Thanks all for your advice. It helps to know that I am not alone.

I use Levsin for mild/moderate bladder spasms. I tried Ditropan and Detrol, they both cause retention (worse than I had with the spasms). I can get them so badly that I have to straight cath too. When they are THAT bad, I use Ativan. Much like you discribed Kadi, felt like a flutter, almost like continuous uterine contractions. Not nice at all!!
Good luck with your Uro appt and the instills Emily.

A heating pad or one of those Thermacare patches can also help reduce bladder spasms if they wake you at night. Those were lifesavers for me! I hope you feel better soon.
