Can someone with experience with side effects with Elmiron try to answer my question? I took Elmiron for two weeks. After the first week, I started to have stomach pain. The dr. said take it with food. It didn't help. I've stopped the medicine 4 days ago and the pain is still there. I'm going to the dr. this afternoon. Has anyone had this happen to them, where the pain didn't go away? What could it be?
Thank you all.

I have frequent stomach pain but I'm not 100% sure if it's the Elmiron causing it, but it probably is.
I've been on it since 2000 and the mild to moderate nausea as well as cramps has not gone away but the pain I'm in without the Elmiron is worse than the nausea.
It helps, a bit, to open the capsules and dispense them in a bit of water, than drinking it since the capsules are known to caused a lot of stomach problems on their own

How long were you on the Elmiron, Teddysmom? It certainly could be the Elmiron (it can cause gastrointestinal side effects for sure), but I also wonder if you had stomach pain from something else that coincided with that second week of taking Elmiron.

I was on the Elmiron for 2 weeks. I took it out of the capsule from the start. I just got back from the dr. and he said it was an irritated stomach lining, or gastritis, most likely from the Elmiron, and gave me some samples of prilosec. I'm wondering if I should have asked him for tagamet since I've read that it can help with IC.

Elmiron can for sure throw your stomache for a loop....Kim on here had a pretty severe problem with it an her stomache. If you keep taking it, try it with out the capsule. But if it stills messes up your stomache stop taking it. I hope you start feeling better soon.

My problem with the Elmiron has been very severe heartburn. It lasts for days and the pain is out of this world. I started with the pill last November and since that time have stopped and restarted the darn thing five times. I have stopped for good now and had my first instillation this morning. I tried taking it out of the capsule and then tried taking it with a small snack. I even tried taking a zantec before each dosage ( I was taking 400 mg a day, two in morning two in evening) and even that didn't stop the heartburn. Good luck.
