Not quite fully diagnosed yet. Uro is scheduling cystoscopy and distention.

Started with a kidney/prostate infection last October. Bacteria were present and cultured. Starting in about February, started having testicular/groin and lower left quadrant pain. Pus, but no bacteria present. Tried 2 more rounds of cipro because of infection history.

Doctor did an IVP and CAT scan(with contrast) showing no abnormalities. Prostate normal with no pain. At the last appt. he suggsted IC and wanted to get the cystoscopy done. Actually sent me to this site for more information.

This web has been a wonderful resource so far.

Hello and :welcome: to the boards! This is a great place for information, and tons of support. I don't know what I'd do without it!!

There is something you can do for yourself, if you haven't already: The IC Diet. Diet can play a huge role in how our bladders feel. Most are affected by diet, but not all, a few aren't diet sensitive. Here's link right to the IC Diet foods list here on the site:

http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/diet.html

This is the best way to find your personal "trigger foods", most of us have those particular foods that give the bladder fits! :cussing: What was recommended to me when I first came here last November, was to eat solely out of the "usually ok" list for 3-4 weeks or until my bladder calmed down a bit. Then add in foods one at a time from the "may be ok" list. If I had an increase in symptoms, anywhere from 30 min to 3 days, it went on the no-no list to be retried at a later date. If it didn't pass the 2nd test, it was put on the "permanent no-no" list for me. It's slow going and pretty depressingly restrictive when you first start, but that's just for a little while, as you start adding foods back in, you most likely will find you can eat more things than you thought. It is well WORTH the time and effort, I can't tell you what a difference it makes to me. Knowing what things to avoid to side-step discomfort is a great thing!!

Well, once again I just wanted to say welcome and hope to see you around the boards!!!

Welcome to the board. If you do have IC, the IVP and CT scan wouldn't diagnose it for you. Hopefully once you get the cysto/hydro done you'll have a definitie answer.

Let us know how things turn out!

Hugs, Sandy

The enema before can help in several ways. You definitely don't want to be constipated afterwards so it's helpful to be "empty" to start with. It's not at all unusual for a Fleets to be recommended before any surgical procedure.

Yes, an enema is common with "surgical" procedures, especially abdominal surgery where they don't want to risk nicking the bowel and spilling the contents in the abdomen, but for a cysto?

My bf had a cysto done about 6 months ago and they didnt require an enema.

I wouldnt worry about it though, different doctors have different things they require. It won't hurt anything to do it.

Welcome to ICN, Gary!

Cystoscopy showed no abnormalities for me too. You probably know IC can't neccessarily be seen with this procedure though? But it is a common step along the route to diagnosis.

My Uro sent me to this site as well. It's probably one of the best things he did for me!

Cystoscopy was completely clean. So was the full prostate exam.

GP put me on 10mg of amitryptiline. Can finally sleep through the night and function most of the day without pain.

:welcome: I am new here too but have had IC for yrs. Did your Dr do a hydrodistension with your cysto? I have read that IC can not be diagnosed w/ just a cysto. That the bladder need to be distended to see the IC.
