Elmiron can take six months or more to become effective. I think it would be a good idea to ask your uro about other medications you can take along with the elmiron to help you in the meantime.

Hi I am sorry so far the meds have not worked. Like Donna said Elmiron can take anywhere from 6 mths to 1 yr before working. Try talking with your doctor and ask for something else to try in the mean time. Unfort. with IC it can take awhile to find the correct meds that will work for you. Also are you trying or doing the IC diet. Alot of us find relief with that method also. If not you can find it the patient handbook located at www.ic-network.com/handbook. I am like you and go 40+ times a day and night so I have been there. Best of luck to you...

Are you saying you eat a lot of fruit? And diet pop? Those are both really bad diet triggers for many people with IC. :(

The elmiron took about a year to kick in for me. I started feeling some relief about 9 months . Fruit makes me flare TERRIBLY. I tried a mango a few months ago and flared for 5-6 days. Blueberries, pears, and possibly gala apples are o.k. for MOST IC'ers, but I don't know about the others. Hope you hang in there with the elmiron. liz

Soy is also a huge trigger for some - so fruit, soy, sodas can all cause a big increase in symptoms. Hang in there - hope you feel better soon.
