Could anyone using Enablex, Vessicare or Ditropan tell me which they think helped the most with bladder pressure, frequency, urethral pain? I also pee about every three hours all night which is tiresome. Do any of these meds help with that? What dose worked for you and how long before you noticed any difference?
Thank you,
Sammie

I have never taken Enablex, Vesicare... but I have taken Ditropan and it did not help me at all. It made me retain urine. However, many many ICers swear the Ditropan helps with their symptoms and helps relieve urinary frequency, so give all of the meds a good shot. Try them each for a few weeks and see what happens... one of them may work great for you! :)

I started out on Ditropan before any other med, and before I had my IC dx (have not tried the others). It helped a bit on it's own with the urethral/bladder spasms, but not quite enough on it's own. I believe it really started to help when the Elmrion and Vistaril were added into the game.

Now I think it's a combo of all 3 that do the trick!! ;) I take 100mg of Elmiron, 3 x's a day, 25mg of Vistaril at bedtime and 5mg of Ditropan at bedtime also. But, when I first was dx'd, I was taking 5mg of Ditropan 3 x's a day. Just recently I have been able to get away with just one 5mg tab at bedtime.

Hope this helps a little! :)

Hello there. I use Vesicare/5mg and Take Zoloft/100mg. I started taking Vesicare for the frequency and Zoloft for my depression. I've been on Vesicare for about 10months and out of them ten months I only had three flares that lasted about three days. I had my first flare because I ran out and didn't have time to pick up my perscription. I really thought I was going to be alright but I didn't last the weekend and the other thing was my flares are mild ones and Yes! I don't have to get up at night anymore. My second one was a test. I stopped to see what will happen :P and yep! I had a flare. My third one was because of the flue. I've been all right since. There were times I couldn't sit or lie down. Standing was the only reliefe I had. Pain 24/7. Now I'm ok. Some times after sex it throbs a little but it don't last all day. It's been my life saver. O Yeah, I took about Three weeks for me to notice I was having alot of pain free days. My Uro told me not to give up on it. I stuck to it because it helped my frequency and then I noticed one day I had no pain. Well this helped for me I hope it works for you too.

I started out on Ditropan before my IC was diagnosed, too....it really seemed to help with the frequency....but as soon as my dr figured out that I had more than just an over-active bladder, he took me off the Ditropan. But for the month or so that I was taking it, I did notice a difference in my frequency.

I use Urelle when I have trouble with bladder pain at night. It helps me right away.

I also us Urelle for bladder/urethral pain and burning. This also has an antispasmodic in it as well. I tried using this in conjunction with Sanctura (similar to Detrol, et al) but I started retaining a lot of water/urine. Hope this info helps!

Kate - what other meds are you taking? This is how I found out I was retaining urine. I go in for heparin instills about once a week (for the past two months). They usually ask you to void for a urine sample, and when they put the cath in they drain the bladder of any urine before putting the med in. Last Thursday and today, even after I thought I had completely voided my bladder, the nurse drained nearly 200ccs additional out. This had never happened before. So--I'm trying to figure out if it's the Urelle, Sanctura or Atarax. I've taken the Urelle and Sanctura (both have antispasmodic properties) as needed for 2 1/2 years. The Atarax I've only been taking for about 3 weeks. It may be a combo of all three. So, the human guinea pig continues on...

Rosesitty~ I am taking urogesic blue tablets (exact same thing as urelle just a different brand name). Thats all I'm taking. For a month or so it really helped and I was only peeing every 2-4 hrs and I would pee alot. But now it isn't working for me..not with frequency or pain. And it seems not nearly as much is coming out when I pee. Today I'm gana stop taking it and see how that effects my symptoms.

Kate, I started experimenting with my meds too until I go into the uro on Friday. I stopped the Atarax on Tuesday and take one Urelle in the AM and one Sanctura at night. My frequency is going up and down, but my output is much better. The only thing is my bladder feels funny. It's like when you use a muscle too much and it's fatigued. It just feels weak. I'm also getting a few twinges in my urethra from time to time. I think the Urelle, Atarax and Sanctura all together is creating urine retention....I think. :-)

Actually my Interstim has helped with the spasm to a tollerable point.
