I went to a new urologist yesterday, and he said that he could make anyone's bladder look like hunner's ulcers. He then went on to say that "you don't have IC, and promptly walked out the door to take a phone call.
He also said that my broblem wasn't IC but Pelvic floor dysfunction and the ONLY WAY to fix it was to implant a sacrum nerve stimulator.
I told him the pain sometimes was so bad that I wished I was unconscious. "IC pain is not that bad. IC patients don't have that kind of pain."
any advice---what if this guy calls my general practioner and tells him I don't have IC---no more pain meds for me.

Bunny,
My advice? RUN from this guy. What a JERK!!! You can get PFD treatments from a trained physical therapist. You do NOT need a sacral nerve stimulator to fix that, BELIEVE me.
OMG I just want to punch that doctor. IC pain is not that bad? Anyone can have Hunner's? I would tell your PCP what this guy said, and tell him you were pretty offended and would never like to see him again. Maybe tell him you would be willing to see a urologist with more experience in the IC field, and one who will not dismiss you and make you feel bad for wasting his precious time--since he did go out and take a phone call. What a jerk...omg...

:headbang: :hmm:
I agree run run as fast as you can! And find another urologist! You might try calling and asking if they treat many IC patients before you go!

RUN RUN RUN... this guy is a jerk and has no idea what he's talking about!!!!!!!
I'm so sorry you had to even deal with him for one appointment. I agree with Jess; see if you can get your PCP to refer you to someone who is more knowledgeable about IC. Sometimes docs refer to their friends, but that's not necessarily the best thing for you. You may want to call around to a few urologists yourself to find out about their IC treatment philosophies, so you can suggest a few to your PCP (docs sometimes don't have time or patience to research other options).

this was supposed to be the guy to see if you had IC. He is in a huge practice and he is the one recommended.

Well, in my opinion, he's not an expert ... don't be intimidated just because he has an M.D. and is a supposed expert. You were not treated well, and you deserve much better.

Oh man.......
Not only would I run as fast as I could, I would call and register a complaint about this man and give them the links to some of the sites here online that will make him look like the obvious schmuck that he is! If it were me, I would file a complaint and ask for any co pay or fee I paid to be returned or that you will take him to small claims court for it. I don't mess around. If he doesn;t want his reputation to be dragged trhough the mud, he will return that fee otherwise I would make it very unpleasant for him. What a first rate ass. Not only is he wrong, he is imcompetent. The mdical association needs to hear from people when these things happen because if nothing else, you might be able to save another person from going through this kind of nonsense. He's lucky it wasn't me. I may look cute and sweet, but I would make him sorry he and I were in the same room.

I have hunners and there no fun that is a FACT! I wouldn't just walk away but run as fast as i could from this doctor then file a complant. One thing some doctor don't take into factor (if they even know IC) is that hunners makes IC twice as wrose on the avg ICer.
honey please keep shopping around for another IC exp.
don't stick with him are you will always be suffering.
sending you hugs and prayers

Huh? What does he mean by anyone can have Hunners Ulcers? Only about 5-9% of people with IC get them (I'm one of them :() which means that very few people who have IC will have Hunners Ulcers. That doesn't mean that people who don't get them are not in a lot of pain as well
Like everyone said, find a new uro, this guys a goof :bonk:

Are you running yet? If not, I also suggest you do so. You really need a doctor who will listen to you. I also have Hunner's ulcers.

I don't have Hunner's but my husband could tell him what is was like watching his wife curled up in the fetal position, moaning, and writhing in pain because of IC day after day. "IC pain is not that bad" my a**. I am here to tell you it is. I would rather go through childbirth every nine months than go through that kind of pain ever again. At least, with childbirth you get a wonderful baby at the end of the pain and the pain goes away. IC pain is so totally horrible that I do not have words to describe it. I think when we get these kinds of doctors and they are men that we ought to reach out and grab a handfull and twist as hard as we can. Then they just might get a small inkling as to what the pain of IC is all about. I'm sorry to rattle on but this just makes me so angry.
Put those track shoes on and RUN from this monster. You don't have to put up with this type of abuse from any medical person.
I also agree that this so called doctor should be reported and have his license yanked. He should not be allowed to "practice" on anyone.
I am so sorry you had to endure this kind of treatment. :kissing:

Thanks for helping me. I was falling into a bad bad depression. so tired of such nonsense. I just don't want to battle anymore. I'm sick of it. If I could write my own prescriptions, draw my own blood, and cultures, I would never ever go to see another doctor again. I am serious. I think I have developed post traumatic stress from so many bad experiences. I think I am just unlucky when it comes to doctors. I have had doctors do much much worse!!!! At least this time, I knew he was a jerk, idiot, but deep inside it really freaked me out him saying, "you don't have IC."
Well, thanks,
bunny

You know Bunny, I have rarely had a good experience with a doctor. I am being completely honest with you. They are either spread too thin to care or simply don't know how to help you. My experiences have been awful. If I told you about some of them, you would not believe it. I stopped one day and realized that I could not change them. I could not do anything to make them a nicer or more compassionate person. I could not educate them or get them to see what may be right in front of them. What I could do is to control my reaction to them. I began taking charge. I stopped acting like they were gods when I entered thier offices. I stopped being afraid to speak out of turn or say something they may not agree with. By doing this, my experiences are now a little more fulfilling and I get better results. I let them know right up front that I am not a wallflower. I am not a weakling and I am not afraid of them. They do not intimidate me anymore. I cannot count the times I have prevented them from doing damage to me because I chose to speak up. My Oncologist was all ready to give me Tamoxifen when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Now my tumor was Estrogen Receptor negative. That means that Estrogen did not fuel my tumor. My Mother was the same way. Estrogen was not our problem. I have a history of blood clots in my family and am highly reactive to medications. Tamoxifen brings on early menopause, causes blood clots (I had two friends rushed to the hospital because of this) and all kinds of negative changes and is not recommended for people with my history. It also does NOTHING for people who's tumors are Estrogen Receptor negative as mine was so why put myself through that for 6 years. She was going to give it to me anyway because of a sort of assembly line mentality. She hadn't even bothered to really look into my situation particularly. After speaking up, she suddenly looked and thought about it and said "You know you're right....if you were Estrogen Receptor Negative, this drug will probably not help you...the downside would outweigh any benefit! She was all set to give me this drug as if it were nothing!
When I first I had IC years ago, I had doctors tell me that it must be in my mind because they could find no other reason for what I was experiencing. The first urologist missed the problem entirely after doing a painful cystocopy without any pain meds before or after, because as he so eloquently put it, (It won't hurt....how the hell did he know and boy he was wrong wrong and wrong again). He sent me on a wild goose chase costing my Mother and I thousands out of pocket with co pays and stuff because they missed it. I was even given to a second Urologist who also missed it! The third did a Hydro and was astounded by how badly my Bladder looked and that his other two colleagues missed it entirely. He also found it barbaric that one should stick a tube up me without any sedatives or anesthesia of any form.
I have actually walked out of a doctors office in the past. She was a Kaiser doctor who was on such a different plane of existence with me that I actually turned to her and said you know, I think I may be wasting your time as well as my own so let me not waste another moment. Please feel free to go back to whatever it is you do best and I left.
Don't be afraid of these doctors. They are often wrong. I hate to say this but they sent my Mom home twice telling her she had the flu when she was dying of Acute Leukemia. They told her to try not to worry so much about things! They are wrong more often then I think the public wants to even admit or know. Take the bull by the horns and go somewhere where you are being felt and heard. It's really such a shame that we must wear a suit of armour when going into a doctors office when we already don't feel well, but we must. Don't let an uneducated buffoon such as this freakazoid make you feel bad for another moment. He was clearly an ass!
