I'v been sick a few days, and after having a coughing spell and not being able to catch my breath due to smoking, :cussing: I threw my smokes at my hubby and said here I am thru!! I have had enough. . I put on a no smoking patch last night at 9:30pm and have not had a smoke in the last 13 hours and 10 mins :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: and better yet, I don't feel the need to have one.... ( :hmm: anyone have any chocolate :biglaugh: :biglaugh: )
wish me luck and hope that I can keep my promise to myself... I am doing this for me this time.. not anyone else.. so I am pretty sure I will be able to do it.. not to mention save money.. now to get hubby to join me..
Hugs

Congrtulations on this decision. :woohoo: It is the best one for yourself. I am sure you have read all the posts giving suggestions, so I will not bore you by repeating them.

 One thing though (couldn't resist :D )...it would be a whole lot easier if both you and your husband were doing this together. My husband and I stopped in May of 1991. My husband made the decision because his lungs were beginning to hurt. I was not ready but decided to stop in support. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I used toothpicks and straws instead of food. My husband gained about 20 pounds because he used food to take the place of cigs. He has since lost it all plus more.

YOU CAN DO IT

Good Luck you can do. That is thing when you are really ready to quit you can do it. I have not had one in over 3 yrs now. Even being told at 30 that I had the lungs of a 60 year old and if I did not quit then I would end up with Emphy. it still took me another 2 yrs to stop. I did it slowly to where I only smoked 1 or 2 a day and then none. So I really had no withdrawls or cravings from it. My lungs to this day are still not good. A little cold goes straight into Bronchitis and with winter coming up I will keep it....Good luck and I am glad you are trying....

Good luck, you can do it!! I don't smoke (never have) but my husband had for over 30 years, and he had to have a stress test recently, so he had to stop smoking for 1 day, well, he thought ok, 1 day then 2 and so on, its been 4 months now. He feels so much better. of course he has gain 20 pounds, we are trying to lose it, but its so hot here, but hopefully, when it starts to cool down, maybe we will start to walk and he will lose it.

Good luck--I hope you don't turn into a monster like Chris when he quit. Actually, he went on that antidepressant (can't think of the name!) that helps you to quit. Wellbutrin maybe? OHHH it's Zyban! Yeah--anyway I think that did help him. He quit in March or April and it's so nice to not smell smoke anymore. I think you'll find your fibro will feel better, too. GL you can do it!!!!

You have already proved you can do it! Congratulations! I do have one suggestion and that is to put a no smoking sign on both your front and back doors. It's almost impossible to beat the addiction if you're breathing somebody else's nicotine smoke.

You have a right to be proud of yourself.

Sending a huge hug,
Donna

I quit for 2 years and had almost no IC symptoms. I started having headaches. Bad Headaches. Turns out, I walking around with a chronic migraine headache. I thought I was going to go crazy so I smoked and it helped calm me down and I was able to get off high blood pressure medication.

BUT, it is killing me and I can't stop. don't know how. I need a hospital but they won't let you do that (insurance company)

I am glad somebody quit.

Good for you, brat! Make sure that you buy yourself something special with all that money you're not spending on smokes!

It's tough quitting when your hubby does not, -been there, done that. But I made it and you can too!

As a side note, my hubby quit five weeks ago and I really feel for what you quitters are going through.

Hang in there!

I am thinking about quitting smoking. I am really worried about the weight gain issues.
I have been really out of shape already for about 6 years now. So, I will probally balloon up when I quit. I will definetely have to start exercising and watching
my weight. Does anyone have any ideas for quitting and for exercise! All of your
successful quit smoking stories are very inspirational to me. I am so proud of you!

Brat, how are you doing on the smoking, or rather, not smoking? I really want to quit. I went to all those American Cancer Society web pages that literally make you cry from the horror stories there......I put a timer on my computer of how many hours and days I'd been quit, and it tells you how much of your life you've gained back, etc.

Of course, something in my life screwed up and there I go, lighting a cigarette. I can tell a difference when I smoke WAY less, my bladder is much less unhappy.

It's such an addiction, and I'm so ANGRY at the tobacco companies for profiting off of our addiction. I think, sometimes, that anger is the best medicine, the best motivator to accomplish something you really want. Of course, hanging on to that anger for longer than necessary isn't such a good thing.

Anyway, how are you? Please, if you had a relapse, dont feel bad......we ALL do that. I just hadn't seen an update and was thinking about ya.

Hugs, Sandy

hello everyone,
I quit smoking Monday and have not had a smoke since actually tuesday. I joined
a gym and started doing cardio and weight training. I have to do something to get
all this aggression out! LOL
This is really hard! I just want to cry, but surely it will get better. I hope anyways.
My bladder does feel better and I do have a lot more energy. Please everyone think
about me.

You Go Girls! I'm proud of both of you! Now, if you can just get ME to quit... I hate crying to the doc about IC pain, and I'm still smoking like a chimney. I know, I know... I'm trying! I start the Wellbutrin (Zyban) tomorrow night, and in a week I have my last smoke...

We can do this!

One of the most horrible things about addiction is that your body demands that you give it the nicotine --- and that causes your mind to come up with all kinds of reasons to just light up one more time --- like stress (Ever hear anyone say they were doing fine without smoking until they got upset over something?).

I told myself that if I could live without a cigarette for one day, that would be my first victory. When I passed the four day mark, that was the final victory --- I just asked myself if I ever wanted to go through those four days again --- the answer was "NO."

Have you ever heard someone say they would quit, but didn't want to gain weight? Sound familiar? I gained weight when I quit smoking and my doctor said I was far better off with the extra weight than I was smoking.

Monica, you have already gone several days without smoking so I know you can do it.

Cindy, how are you doing?

Sending encouraging hugs,
Donna (heavy smoker until 1984 or 85)

I'm still trying......... I did break and smoke. :headbang: . but whats that saying.. oh yea... never quit quitting..... :)
lol Donna.. remember when I lost all that weight and was 98 lbs... I went to the doctor Monday I have acute Bronchitis, and they weighed me in at 145....... Then my brother in law comes over and tells me, girl, you put on a few pounds.. and I said yep,, much better then a bag of bones.. I see you did too :biglaugh:
