Hi and :welcome: to the boards!!! Have you been diagnosed with IC? Or are you still going through the diagnosis phase? There are a lot of things that can have the same symptoms, it's best to get those ruled out. I understand you have been tested for all the STD's that's a great start, if you haven't done anything else. :) Has a urinary tract infection been ruled out?? I would definitely get in contact with a urologist if you haven't already!
As for the painful sex, you definitely want to keep investigating as to what could be causing it. It could be IC, but then, it may not be. IC is pretty much a diagnosis made by eliminating all other possibilities. Slow going, but best to be sure of what you are dealing with! ;)
A lot of us use Pryidium (an Rx) or the over-the-counter versions, AZO Standard or Uristat, etc. This med is a analgesic for your bladder. It numbs things up, your bladder and urethra. Works great for urinary pain and that awful frequency/urgency feeling. But it is for short term use only as it can build up in a bad way in your body. Also, alot of use the personal lubricants like Astroglide and Liquid Silk to help prevent some of the discomfort that intercourse can cause us. Even if it's not "technically" needed ;) I use a good amount anyway, better safe than sorry!!! Also, if you use condoms, those can be aggrivating as well, especially if they are spermicidally lubricated. Another thing I recommend is good COMMUNICATION with your boyfriend, if it is causing you that much pain, you need to talk to him and tell him about it. I am sure he wouldn't be so interested in sex if he knew he was hurting you :) It may be hard at first, but that is one of the best things you can do, be honest and open.
Here's a couple links on the site that are very helpful, one is to the Patient Handbook, and the other to the "IC Diet" foods list.

Hope this helps a little bit, and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask, that's what we are here for! :)
Take care!!!!
SoMuchPain - I'm sorry you are hurting. I think you should talk with your partner and definately let him know how painful it is for you. If he doesn't want to listen, wake him up when he falls asleep and let him see how much pain you're in. If you haven't been to a Dr yet, you should really go to see what might be avilable for you. I have a lot of pain before, during and after sex. This is what I do to help: I use BandAid Antiseptic Wash. You can buy it in the First-Aid section of a grocery store or Wal-mart/Target or pharmacy; don't buy the cheap kind, the Band-Aid brand works best. Before sex, squirt it on your "area" down there and pat yourself dry with a soft cloth. Then afterwards when you're burning like hell, squirt it all over again (on the outside, not in your vagina). Then put a pad on and don't dry youself. Within about 1 minute, my burning subsides and I can go to sleep. Of, course my bladder still feels like it has been torched, but the burning on the outside completely stops. I hope this will work for you. Please let us know how you're doing...Good luck with the wash, if you decide to try it... :grouphug:

Hi. I know how ya feel. I just found something that is a miracle for me.
Tea Tree Oil Suppositorys by a company called Thursday Plantation. I first found them at the health food store for a yeast infection. But found they were very soothing for the burning after sex! They are kind of expensive
about 12 dollars for a box of six but worth it.! (they work for me anyway)
I think the website for them is www.thursdayplantation.com You can even put them in the freezer then insert after sex It is the best feeling when you are dying from the burn.

I'm sorry you're having pain. You really need to talk to a doctor so that you know what is going on. The things like the Azo standard, any over the counter pyridium, etc, are a great idea and I would give that a try while you are waiting to get into the doctor's office.
Your boyfriend might need to get over it and realize you guys can only have sex when it doesnt leave you in so much pain. You really should talk to him abou it....it seems to be a guy thing---they fall asleep afterward and are oblivious to anything less than a bomb going off in the house...but we are often wide awake. Please do talk to him, and make sure he understands how much agony you are in.
If you read these replies today, it is Friday and maybe you can still get in to see a doctor today, or maybe make an appointment for the first of the week. I just cant stress how important it is to be seen.
You really have no idea what is causing this pain, it could be anything and we cant diagnose you online.
I really hope you feel better soon. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Sandy
