Hi everyone,
I am 5 weeks pregnant. I know I need to take prenatal vitamins but was wondering if they bother the IC bladder. I didn't take them with my last pregnancy but that was because I had severe morning sickness (on an iv for two weeks) and my tummy couldn't handle them. My other pregnancies were so long ago I don't remember if they bothered me or not, I was so new to IC then that I didn't even know that foods, vitamins, etc. affected IC.
Thanks for any insight.
~Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Congratulations!! :) I take Daily Source prenatals, and I am fine with them. The only thing that's causing my bladder issues is the gallon of fruit juice I drink daily ;) and my Ensure Healthy Mom chocolate shakes! But the prenatals are okay, and my nails are super long!

Hugs,
Jess

Thanks for the info Jess. Wow, I wish I could drink fruit juice. I miss orange juice so much sometimes.
When are you due?

Hi again,

I'm due March 26th. I've been sucking down Juicy Juice because my doctor said that would be good to drink. I just can't stand water, so juice is the next best thing. That, and Sprite have been my constant companions. The frequency/urgency/pain aspect of my IC have increased, but at least I know the baby is getting what he/she needs, ya know?

When are you due?

Hugs,
Jess

I hear ya. I'm so sick of water. I used to drink lots of iced green tea (didn't seem to bother the bladder) but trying to avoid caffeine now. I did have Sprite yesterday. I felt guilty cause I've been trying to avoid the sugar and carbonation but oh, it tasted so good. I drink lots of milk and chocolate soy milk too.
I'm due May 12th. My oldest son was born on March 24th. March is a good month to give birth, well here in CA anyway, not too cold and not yet hot.
hugs,
~Kathy

I was trying to avoid the sugar too, but honestly, it's the only thing that really helped my morning sickness. That, and a bathroom nearby! I tried crackers, ginger, you name it, nothing worked. My morning sickness has cleared up considerably, I am so grateful for that. Now I am dealing with a puffy tummy and all day rumbling tummy. It is amazing! Hey keep your eyes peeled for "In The Womb" on National Geographic if you haven't seen it before. I'm sure you know all the stages and stuff since you've been pregnant before, but it's so interesting to watch.

Are you going to find out the sex of the baby?

Hugs,
Jess

I am hoping to avoid the morning sickness this time (good luck, huh, lol) I had it really severe with my first and third son. I'm not going to find out the sex since this will be my last baby I want to be surprised when I meet him/her. However, with three boys, odds are it's gonna be another boy :-)
Thanks for the info. I am going to try to catch that show. I love to watch health and medical shows.
hugs,
~Kathy

I didn't start taking the prenatals until my second trimester, and by then my IC had subsided. Now I take them right before I go to sleep, so they don't make me sick. That is the first thing I would try if I were you.

I can't imagine going through this pregnancy if I hated water! I drink water all day long, it helps with so many things(not to mention I live in AZ and it is hotter than Heck.) I can only drink it if it is the good kind, filtered by reverse osmosis. If you really hate water (even the good kind) Have you tried watering down you juice? That may help avoid some discomfort. Good Luck!

Hi Sherry,
Congrats on your pregnancy. That's a great idea about the Prenatals. I was thinking in reverse, that if they bothered my bladder I didn't want them keeping me up all night so I should take them in the morning but yeah, with the iron causing nausea taking them in the evening would be best. I don't really hate water, I just get tired of it cause there are so many things I can't drink. I may pick up some pear juice next time I get to Trader Joes.
You're right, water is great. I was having a bladder issue the other day and was so frustrated. My tummy felt bloated and had a heavy full, kind of tickly feeling. I was running to the bathroom every 15 minutes. I drank lots of water and it diluted my urine so that I didn't have to run to the bathroom as often and where I live in CA we get triple digit weather and have horrible air quality so it's easy to get dehydrated.
So, to the fun stuff. When are you due and do you know the gender. It's so nice to have pregnancy buddies, especially when they understand IC.
hugs,
~Kathy

Kathy- let me know how you do with your prenatals. It was funny when I read your post, because I had bad morning sickness with my first and my third also. Not at all really with my second. What a coincidence.

I did get sick with this one (my fourth) but it wasn't morning sickness. I was able to get up do my aerobics and kickboxing classes and be just fine. Then I would hurl all afternoon and evening. I guess I can't have it all!

I will be 35 weeks on Saturday. My due date is Oct.15, and she is another girl ( I have two girls and a boy) I have been on bedrest for the last two weeks with preeclampsia and it has been horrible. They want me to make it to 36 weeks, so my prayer is that they will let me have this baby in 1 1/2 weeks. We'll see....

I am having a hard time naming this one, maybe you can help. I was thinking of making a new thread where you could all vote on a name. We'll see...

Brenly- We both like this one, but it is a little strange
Lydia -I love this one, beautiful bible name, hub doesn't
Rosa (call her Rosie)My husband thinks Rosa is too latin to go with our Scottish last name, but I like it.(She was concieved on a Mexican cruise ;) )
Those are probably our top three. What do you think?

I take my prenatals with dinner--that way my morning sickness wasn't a problem.

My third son was born on Halloween. Sorry about the bedrest. Not easy with three other children. I'll add you to my prayers.
I like the names you picked out. I'm with hubby though, Rosa would be my last choice, only cause it's so common. I like the sentiment attached to it though. I think Brenly is very nice. I like unusual names. I like Kaylor, Elaina, Cambria, Ashlyn. I think it would be fun to do a name thread, I could use some suggestions myself. I may need some boy names though.
hugs,
~Kathy
I'll let you know how the prenatals go too.

Kaylor is the name of a very good friend of mine's son (kaelor). I like Cambria. Elaina is actualy a name we might use. My birthday is sept. 28, and my middle name is Elaine(which I don't like at all) If the baby is born on my birthday, we will name her Elaina. That way she is named after me, only we don't all get confused. Ashlyn is a VERY common name in my area. It is very pretty, but if I named her Ashlyn she would be Ashlyn M. her entire life.

No opinion on Lydia? My kids really like it. And it is a bible name like my oldest (Rachael)

We should start a baby name thread.

I took New Chapter Prenatal vitamins from Whole Foods. They made my morning sickness worse, but didn't seem to bother my bladder much. The main reason I chose this was because Vitamin C can be a problem for ICers. So I looked for a prenatal with Ester C (instead of the common acidic form). It's also free of dyes, additives, etc.

Folic Acid is most impt in the 1st trimester. That makes my bladder & urethra burn and definetly increases my frequency. I could only take it in AM because if I took it at night, I got NO sleep.
In the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, Calcium and Iron are most impt. If you can't find a prenatal vitamin... you can try supplimenting with the individual pills. Again, look for suppliments with no dyes and as few additives as possible.

Also, I don't know how effective it is... But I ate alot of healthy cereals (multigrain cheerios, total, etc) to get extra vitamins on the days my bladder (or morning sickness) couldn't handle the pills.

Hi Kathy......congrats on your pregnancy!
I was so sick with m/s for my whole pregnancy.
My ob/gyn o.k'ed Flintstones vitamins for me to take. It had the right amount of folic acid she wanted. It was the only thing that worked. ALL the others made me even sicker or made my frequency that much worse.
I have to say I took my vitamin at night......it made me gag every time....and I chased it with water...but I was determined to give this baby a good jump-start on his health.
It worked out....he is three now and soooo hard to keep up with! ;) This week he has been riding the motorcycle with his daddy (in the yard only) and a friend thought he should have a pair of skates soooooo we are doing the rollerblade skate thing now. Luckily we have all the protective gear.
Good luck w/ the rest of your pregnancy! Can't wait to see an update from you! :)
