If you have trouble going to a gym you might want to try some exercises at home. I've been lifting weights for a long time at various gyms (thankfully my IC is not so bad - but is annoying - so it never prevented me from doing exercise), and decided to research other exercise methods this summer. I found out about several exercise systems based on similar principles that you don't need weights or exercise equipment for at all:
Coming from someone who has been using weights for a long time I was quite skeptical, but I've maintained my muscle mass and even improved in some areas of my body while using these exercises exclusively for the past 2 months. If you still want to use weights you can incorporate those as well, but I'm done with weights for good myself. Certainly a big upside is no longer needed a gym membership or having to take time out for going to the gym, which can certainly help with keeping an exercise routine.
