Hi all

i am new to this message board. am from ireland and usually post on the uk site. howver in the US there seems to be a much greater variety of treatments etc available.

i am going through a terrible flare up at the moment. the pain is awful. i can't take conventional pain killers as they seem to aggravate my ic even more. does anybody else have that problem. it was suggested to me to try morphine slow release patches during a flare up. has anyone else tried these and did they help at all or did they just aggravate it even more.

at the moment i take regurin, urispas and amitriptyline but they are not offering me any relief at the moment and am terrified that my ic could be returning as bad as it was before, where i became a virtual recluse and depressed etc.

if anyone can offer any advise, i would be very grateful.

Clodagh.

I have never yet tried morphine patches...What pain killers have aggravated your IC?

What meds have you tried that you aren't on? Are you on the diet? Feel free to private message me if needed. :welcome: to the family...we are here for you.
Is pain your main symptom? Do you have burning? Frequency? Urgency? Urethral pain?

I have tried fentanyl patches, as the continuous release Morphine here is pill form. The patch helped but I was allergic to the adhesives.

I've also tried fentanyl patches, which were very helpful. I don't think a patch would be a good source of temporary or immediate pain relief. It can take up to 17 hours to get the full relief from the patch and can take just as long for it to leave your systme. Also, patches are intended for someone who is already very tolerant to high-dose narcotics. It may be too much narcotic for short-term use. I would discuss this with your Dr. Good luck! Wishing you many pain free days...

Thanks everybody for replying to my post. I will mention fentanyl to my urologist at my next appointment. Hope you are all coping as best you can. Nice to be able to talk to people who understand this awful condition.
