Elavil Questions

I have a couple questions about Elavil - one, what is the dose most of you take? And, the other - I've read that one side effect most people seem to have is grogginess or feeling "hung over" - how long did you take it when you noticed this? Like with the first pill - after a week, or what?

I started out at 50mgs...slept for 16 hours and felt doped all day...uro said to cut that in half to 25mgs which I had been doing great on. I now take anywhere between 25 - 50 depending on what kind of day my bladder decides I am going to get.....the bad news? I have gained 27 pounds but it has been worth it to only have to get up to pee 2 - 4 times instead of 7 - 15...

I have taken 50 mgs for many years. That seems to be the dose must Urologists will put people on.
It was so long ago that I started so I can not really answer your question but I would think you would feel it on the first or second day.
If it gets bad cut the dosage.

I have taken 25 mg for the past two years. I experienced grogginess and dry mouth within a couple of days of taking it. Those symptoms lingered on and off for about a month or so and eventually tapered off. I still feel groggy in the mornings from time to time. Elavil helped me so much that the side effects, while sometimes annoying, are worth dealing with.

I have been taking 50 mg. for almost 2 months now and it took a week or two and my body adjusted to the medication . Now I don't have any groginess.

I have taken 25mg a day for 4 years now. I was tired during the day for the first several days and then it passed and I was fine. :)

I have to admit that I have been on the Elavil steadily now for the first time about two weeks now. I am already seeing some improvement. I am only on 10mg and it is helping to knock down the pain. I find it very hard to get up in the morning but I can usually shake that off after an hour or two have passed. I am hoping that I do not have to go to super high doses eventually. I like it down here at 10mg.
