When I eat salads and good for you things like cheerios and wheaties. I get horrendous gas and then the cramping starts and then the diahhrea for days!!! I know this is gross to mention also have alot of mucous in stools too. sometimes the stools are orange yellow in color? just wanted to know if these are symptoms of IBS or something different altogether?

It could be IBS, but you should go to your doctor and discuss this, as we're not medical authorities. One thing that stands out is you mention it happens after cereals, which can contain wheat -- there is a sensitivity to wheat gluten called celiac disease, and this can mimic IBS.

Discolored stools can be a signal of gallbladder issues...do you still have your gallbladder? I thought when my IBS got worse that it was just good 'ol IBS...it turned out to be gallstones and a shrunken and scarred gallbladder. I would talk to a GI doc about your symptoms.

It could be, but you need to talk to your doctor about your symptoms.

Definatly talk to your doctor. I suspect you have something other IBS. I sure hope it is fixable and you feel a lot better soon. :grouphug:

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll do more research on the Celiac disease. I had my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago, no stones, but did have numerous polyps!! the doctor said polys can form anywhere in the body, they usually are from some type of infection. I've also had 2 scopes done in the past, no polys on colon,at least not yet. thanks again, god bless you all.

Kygirltaytay,
I think that somewhere along the line we all may start to have IBS, whether its slight or severe. I'm not saying you do have it, like everyone else said you should consult with your doctor. As far as the mucous in your bowel movement, I have that and did tell my GP and he diagnosed me with colitis. Make sure you tell your doc about that too that is very important.

I've experienced the same. HOwever, I started taking fiber pills. Believe it or not, the bowel symptoms got under control. It was once suggested to me by a doc when I was having lots of diarrhea that I should drink those horrid fiber cocktails! Why would I take more fiber when my bowels were moving? It worked to regulate the problem. I'm not real good on keeping up with that, but it has worked for me.
It is so important to talk with a doctor about those symptoms however, since there are so many things that could be wrong that are fixable and curable if caught early. It's not good to fool around without a doc's advice.

Ya know Maggie now that you mentioned it I do remember my doc recommending the same thing. I havent tried it but now like you mentioned the pills it would be sooooo much easier to take them instead of those "drinks". Thanks for the advice.. :) And you are absolutely right noone should do/attempt any kind of regimen before seeking professional advice.
God Bless,
