Hi everyone. I am new.
I had a urinary diversion in March. My urologist told me that I would have a different kind of pain, but a better quality of life after surgery. And he left my bladder in because he said otherwise I might have sexual dysfunction. I do have a different kind of pain, and an ostomy now. I have more pain / sexual problems now than I ever did before having surgery. And now I feel often that my bladder is in an IC flare.
Has anyone else experienced these problems also? I'm not sure what kind of doctor to go to now. I had the surgery after months on morphine and the fentanyl patch. I don't want to take pain medicine again because I felt I couldn't function at all while taking it.
I tried seeing and calling my urologist. He stated that he had 10 surgeries the next day and prescribed me a medication that was listed under my medical allergies.
My boyfriend broke up with me a couple of days ago and asked me to move because of my illness. I'm in grad school and cannot study because of crying so much.
I need help! (Sorry for the complaints, but I'm lost.)

I thought the whole idea of having an ostomy was to have the bladder removed.. I know nothing of this, but, it kind of makes since.. because it you still have the bladder you still have the IC flares in the bladder.. thats confusing ain't it? I would do some research and the gals here can give you great advice...
I am so sorry that your b/f broke up with you.. maybe you can get some antidepressants to help with the pain physically, and mentally.....

I have not had that procedure done either, just wanted to pop in and say hi. I am curious as to why they left your bladder in and just did a diversion. I am also curious about the doc mentioning potential sexual dysfunction with removing your bladder. There are some people on the boards who have had their bladders removed and they might be able to answer your questions better. If you ever need to vent, know that you've come to the right place. As for your boyfriend giving you the boot, I'll bite my tongue on that. :ignore:

Hugs,
Barb

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I got an antidepressent today and am moving tomorrow. I made an appointment with a urogynecologist also.
It helps to know everyone is here.

I feel so bad for you. Dealing with this disease and an uncaring boyfriend. I found myself wanting to be alone when I was suffering with it. I got sick of explaining it to other people. But you have come to the right site; we are all here for you. you can get better, I did and you have your whole life ahead of you.

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer for you, but I do hope you'll feel better soon.

Re the boy friend --- like Babs, I'll bite my tongue.

I had my bladder and urethra taken out and all any paiin that I had was goone as a result. I did not have much pain, only in the urethra. My question is why did they laeve trhe bladder in? It is ot like you are going to use again.I truly feel that you need to get a second opinion and I would push to have it taken out. I know of others who have had the bladder left in and as soon as they had the bladder removed all thier pain went away. I wish you much luck and hope you get relief soon. Judith
