Is it possible for the dr to be 100% of diagnosis after only performing the potassium catheter thingy ma jig??? I was balling my eyes out from the pain, but I am still holding out hope that he is wrong. I hear you guys talking hydro & cysto something or another and am not clear on what that/those procedures are, nor am I clear on if I need to ask my dr to do that...my next visit is on the 14th, so I am also curious if it should be brought up??? HELP PLEASE!!! Thanks so much to all of ya, and Early Happy New Year!!! :)

Doctors feel differently on how this dissease should be diagnosed but most accept both as a diagnosis. Both being Potasium test and the Cysto w/hydro. I am very sorry that your Potasium test was so painfull. Mine was bad too, that is one of the reasons doctors do no like the test. It was my only diagnosis other than allimination of other things, and my doc is sure I have IC too. Sorry dear but yes I think it is possible for a doctor to be possitive at this point. It doesn't mean he is right....but.....It may very well be what he thinks.

Have hope that they will find a good and successful treatment for you. Good Luck and God Bless.

PS not many docs would ever do both the Potasium and the hydro/cysto, once you have one they are usually set to treat you. My doc won't do the hydro/cysto because he believes I don't need that, it would be a waist and possibly some extra pain.

Good Luck to you.

i think the Potasium test should not be done! I dont think it tells you if you have ic it just tells you if your bladder can handle this or can't handle that. the only way to know for sure you have ic is the Cysto w/hydro Potasium test is so painful i remember it all to well and never will go threw that again! i remember the first thing she put in my bladder was fine then the second one she asked on a scale from one to five how bad does it hurt i yelled out in tears a ten get it out it took them to give me numbing med in my bladder a pain pill and then a pain shot before the pain would slow down that was so awful. eek

Dixiefireball-

That test did just almost the exact same thing to me, except it started hurting me the second that the catheter was inserted, and then all 3 liquids hurt me. They said the last one would make me feel better soon...HARDLY!!! I was balling the whole time. Thanks for your story!!!
