Dear all,

Do any of you who live in the southern California area know of any urologists who specialize in IC? I was diagnosed a few weeks back and see a urologist now, but want to find a urologist who specializes in IC.

Any info would be appreciated! Honeyb :)

honeyb-

I live in Chicago but i'm going to San Diego to see the best IC dr in the USA. His name is Dr. Lowell Parsons at UCSD in San Diego. He is known as the best and the guy to go to. The office employees are so sweet and attentive. I'm looking forward to going in Sept. Dr. Parsons is featured in a few articles and interviews here on ICN.
I hope this helps.

If you're in the OC area, I'd recommend Dr. Jeffrey Kaufman, he has offices in Irvine and Santa Ana. He was on the original team that developed Elmiron (along with Dr. Parsons, above); he has many IC patients and is very knowledgeable about all treatments. My first visit, he spent an hour with me discussing symptoms and treatments. He's very smart and a very nice guy. He diagnoses based on symptoms after ruling out other things (i.e., no hydro/cysto, no potassium test). I also like that he listens to me when I say I want to try or not try this or that treatment; he's not "my way or the highway". He's great.

Good luck!

wow this dr kaufman sounds great. I live in the Riversdie are and I go see dr parsons in san diego, what I found out is that it was taking me 2 hours to get to UCLA to see a uro woman and its only 72 miles from my home and dr parsons is 102 miles away and I can make the drive in 1 hour, is that crazy or what. Good luck

:hi: Honeyb, My Urologist is located in Santa Monica, CA. and he does specialize in IC & other Urology Disorders. His bedside manner is wonderful also the staff are very polite, friendy, & courteous. I feel extreamly comfortable with the doctor, also his communication skills are also effective. Dr. Kaplan explains everything too you in lay & medical terms which makes it easy for you to understand. If you would like any addtional information, feel free to email me. Have A Wonderful & Safe Pain-Free Weekend!

Thanks to you all for your recomendations! It's been a rough couple of weeks and I haven't posted much. I'm on my 10th UTI right now and had a bad flare up this past week. I truly appreciate all of your advise!

Best, Kelly :grouphug:

Kelly I hope hope that you feel better, I know exactly what you mean. I'm constantly having infections too, actually I just completed my last series of antibiotics which my body has now built up an immunity & they're not working effectivly for me.
Next week I'm going back too the doctor for some type of treatment plan.

Prayers,

Hey, Michelle,

I go to Dr. Kaplan in Santa Monica, too! He's been great to me -- always encouraging and very knowledgable. I PMed HoneyB about him awhile back. I hope she makes it in to see him!
