maybe TMI but I am due for an instill tomorrow and need to know if I should wear a pad or a tampon to the appt. I don't want to call me dr. because I don't want them to think I'm insane :loco:

There is no physical reason why you cannot get an instill when you are menstruating.

Generally, it is just the doc's preference. I know that the uro who diagnosed me was male, and did not care if it was that time of the month or not when it came time for instills. If I was not in too too much pain I wore a tampon but if I was in pain I'd wear a pad. Luckily, being on oral contraceptives has made my period flow very light, so I could get away with small tampons & pads -- and it wasn't too obvious that I was bleeding.

However, you should call if you have any concerns -- I'm sure they have gotten that question before many times, and will answer your questions. I think some docs may prefer to wait, while others don't care.

Yes, you can have it done during that wonderful time of the month. I have had it done many times and I think it bothers me more then the doctor (male) and nurse. There was just one time I didn't have it done. I was bleeding way to much and there was just no way of having them do it and not make a mess. I can't use a tampon because of pain.

I also have done instills T.T.M...I was more embarrassed than the dr...he just said " Oh, your having your period, no problem".

I've had them done 2 or 3 times while on my period, I just wore a tampon but since I always wear tampons during that time it wasn't a problem.
btw, if you do use a tampon the O.B. Silks are the best for IC since they cause less friction and don't expand as much
