Does anyone know why it says you should not take diflucan (yeast infection medication) while on amitryptiline? I have read that about it, but I don't understand why. (planning to ask the dr next time I go). I am not on amitryptiline yet, but will be.

I'm only on 10mg and took diflucan without any problems
Man, I know we've talked about this here before but I can't remember what the reasons are.... I have also taken both together with no problems. I'll poke around and see what I can find out.
Actually, looking at info for both drugs - I'm not seeing a caution against using the two together. Do you have a link where it says that?
The discussion we had here once was about Detrol LA and Diflucan, I think. Again, I take those two together, but I do remember questions being rasied.
Ah, just had to keep looking! ;)
Here is something I found:
WARNING:
Concomitant administration of amitriptyline (Elavil) and fluconazole has resulted in increased serum concentrations of the tricyclic antidepressant, and CNS toxicity has been reported in a few patients receiving the drugs concomitantly. It has been suggestedthat fluconazole may interfere with metabolism of amitriptyline by inhibition of CYP isoenzymes involved in metabolism of the antidepressant. Amitriptyline and fluconazole should be used concomitantly with caution.

I'm not a doctor by any means, but I am going to guess that is more of an issue when a person is taking the higher doses of Elavil used for depression. Most Icers are on a small, small dose. I believe the concern is that the Diflucan would cause a problem in how the Elavil is metabolized - resulting in too much of the Elavil in the person's system.
But, ask your doctor if you have concerns.

This site is awesome. Unlike the myriad of drug sites that just share the same generic information over and over, this site has an interactive window that allows you to to test drugs against one another for interactions! You can list as many as you want and it will still find any interactions with one or all of them!
