Okay I was wondering if any of you have a solution as to how to get rid of bats and keep them away. Last year we had so many and this year I thought we were bat free since we closed and sealed off all possible holes. But between yesterday and today we have gotten rid of 4. I went on line and have found that maybe moth balls could help but wondering about anything else. UGGH I hate bats they are so gross.

My solution, 3 years ago, was to lock myself in my bathroom and shriek until someone came home to make it leave. LOL
I was 19, home alone, sitting on the couch in our living room, when all of a sudden something flew past my head, off the couch I was sitting on! I looked across the room at it and for a split second I thought a bird had gotten into the house. Well I realized it was a bat and let out an unearthly scream that I had no idea was in me. I ran to the bathroom and locked myself in there with the phone and a book. Of all places, I picked the bathroom LOL. I'm such a nut.
Anyway, if you have an Ace Hardware, Home Depot, or Menards near by I would go there and see if they have anything or can give any suggestions. I have no idea how to get rid of 'em--I let my dad handle that one bat (who they later found in a laundry basket in the laundry room, two days later ggrr)
Hugs,
Jess

When my kids were in their teens, Terry and I went to a square dance and were out quite late. When we got home we found on the dining room table: one baseball bat, one motorcycle helmet, one pair of ski mittens, and a heavy coat (this was in summer). The kids were all asleep so we went to bed with question marks roaming around in our heads.
The next morning we were told that our oldest (18 at that time) got the stuff out to go after a bat in one of the bedrooms. Nobody knew where the bat went, but it was gone. About two weeks later I found the bat, a full two inches long, dead in my youngest son's underwear drawer.
I like to lay in the yard when the bats are out at dusk. They rustle like silk as they go after the mosquitos and other noxious bugs. They are really graceful.

Jess I am sorry but I can picture that and I just had to :biglaugh: . I can see myself doing that, I guess why it is so funny.
I have no idea how to get rid of them in the home, so I am of no help there. But like Donna we (hubby, I & kids) like to go out at dusk and watch them to. If you throw something up in the air they will go after eat. And they do eat mosquitos and for us that is good for the West Nile Virus, while they have their bad things they are also good for some stuff. Hope you figure out something soon.

oh Jess funny, My olderst daughter has locked herself in her closet for hours until we got home, thankfully we were home this time when she yelled. I have called menards, home depot, ace true value ect and no one carries anything. Last year we got some stuff at Menards but they didn't have any this year.
As for laying and watching them I will have to pass, for one they totally gross me out and for two at at 37 weeks pg I would never be able to get back up lol :) Thanks for the advice and the stories at least I know I am not alone. Wondering how the bat in the underware drawer though :)

Dont even get me started on bat stories..I feel for you because I have been there and its a horrible place to be. I used to live in a house that was infested with bats and we tried everything imaginable to get rid of them. Finally my husband and a friend went up into the attic and uncovered them they were hiding in the insulation so they shot them with a bb gun and used tennis rackets to knock them down with when they tried to fly away.We ended up getting 85 bats out of out attic that day.I would like to tell you that was the end of the story but its not.We still had them because they were living in the walls. We could here them scratching at night and we continued getting them in the house. My husband patched every hole he could find on that house to keep any new bats from coming in wile we were still fighting the exisisting ones.We fought this long battle for 8 months. We slept with tennis rackets so we could knock them down if they came in our bedroom at night because that seemed to be thier favorite thing to do.It was a living nightmare that I will never ever forget.. But I do have good news to report we finally found the solution WE MOVED!!! I was never so happy to leave that house it was one of the best moments of my life. For real..So theres my bat story..I can laugh about it now but sure not back then..So I wish you the best of luck my friend cause your going to need it...Snooks

My husband keeps saying to move also but I just can't bring myself to do that at this time, we have lived here 2 years and have remodeled each room (excpet the kitchen) I never grew up having a nice home and don't want to give this one up.
Hubby wants to finish the attic then that way it will put a stop to them in the main part of the house cause they can't get through walls.
