I have IC, IBS and GERD.....I just got out of a 4 month IC Flare and now my GERD is back......I have taken Prevacid in the past for both the IBS & GERD but it doesn't seem to be helping and I don't want anything to cause another flare....I am just beginning to feeling normal again......I'm barely eating anything so I don't know why my GERD has resurfaced.....do any of you have it along with your IC and if so, what do you take to control it? I was taking the Desert Harvest Aloe Vera for awhile and I'm wondering if that could have triggered it? Any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks in advance for your help.

My doctor prescribed Protonix for G.E.R.D. I have been on it about 6 weeks. It has not bothered my IC and I am going break without acid reflux pain. Hope you get your's worked out.

After taking Nexium for a year for GERD and Zelnorm for almost as long for IBS I discovered that my symptoms of GERD and IBS were actually caused by celiac disease(gluten intolerance). Now that I am eating gluten free and not taking Nexium or Zelnorm, I am beginning to feel much, much better. I was shocked, astonished, and very grateful. The medicines worked for a little while but did little good after that. Something to consider... Will be praying that you find out what the problem is and get relief. Blessings of peace and hope to you. PM me if I can help you in any way.

Carolyn, How were you diagnosed?

The GERD was diagnosed by my symptoms and the IBS was diagnosed after I had an EGD that showed nothing wrong with my stomach. The celiac disease was something that, believe it or not, the Lord showed me. I had wondered about it before but couldn't find anything to read about it that listed MY symptoms until I went to one particular website for celiacs (www.csaceliacs.org) and there they listed 25 symptoms and I had 13-15 of them. Just felt the Lord showing me that this was my problem. Then He confirmed it in the Bible to me. That night I started eating gluten free and have felt better most days. It takes 3-6 days to notice any real change in GI problems and 3-6 months for damage to the intestines to be repaired. At ICNDonna's reminder to me, I phoned my pcp and told him what I was doing, asking him if I needed to come in to have any tests done. He said that I did not need to do so now but to continue the diet and see if it continued to help me. Well, yesterday I returned to see him to have some skin biopsies (am wondering if I have the gluten intolerance skin condition called dermatitis herpetiformitis) and he is to be checking with a GI doctor to send me to him for an official diagnosis. So, I guess I really haven't been formally diagnosed yet, but I sure won't go back to eating wheat, oats, barley, and rye again or anything with those things in it! (also spelt, kamut, triticale either) So far that's the story of the celiac disease. Hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to ask on the message board or PM me. Praying that you are feeling better. Blessings of peace and grace to you.

Thanks Carolyn, I have wondered if I might have this too. I read you need to go back to eating gluten foods for the blood work to show you have this disease.

I've also read that they can make a diagnosis of CD with a positive blood test and a good response to the diet if a person has already started eating gluten free. Guess I'll find out soon enough, huh? Thanks for reminding me that this is a possibility. Blessings again to you and yours.

Thanks, Elsie. Just found out that my appt. won't be until Sept. 27. Not surprising but will need a lot of grace to wait until then. The prayers are MUCH appreciated. Till then I will remain gluten free.

Thank you all for your responses....I was in IC remission for 3 or 4 weeks and then my GERD returned and I went back on the Prevacid....I've been taking it for about two weeks and suddenly my bladder has flared...I don't know if there's a connection or not....has anyone had an IC flare when taking Prevacid? I'm on Elmiron and it has been a huge success but I'm wondering if Prevacid is counterproductive to the Elmiron...any thoughts or experience with this?......I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Linda
