I was just given a prescription for hyroxyzine. I took it one day and feel like it might have made me flare up although I'm not certain it was the drug - since I did a couple of other things differently the same day. Has anyone else had a flare from taking it? I'm a little hesitant to try it again.

I couldn't tell I felt any different for a few weeks but kept taking it. I really think it helps my symptoms now, along with elmiron.
You might wait til this flare passes and try again. It might have been coincidental that it happened and you flared anyway.
I hope it helps...if not......try something else?? :)

Hi Janie , I had the same reaction from Hydroxyzine . So I don't know if it is a coincidence or not.

Hydroxyzine was not a good medication for me. Caused many problems. Check with your doctor about this and see what he suggests. Will be praying that you find out what is going on and get it remedied. Blessings of health and peace.

I've been on it for almost 3 months. I started on Elavil and had the worst cravings for sweets with it. H... seems to really help me. I feel a little better everyday.
On H.. I don't have that craving for sweets. I was going to the store and buying two and three boxes of the 'movie candy' and eating the whole box. Now, all I want is maybe one or two pieces. I've lost about 5 pounds after coming off Elavil and taking H..
It's so hard to determine what flares. I don't know anyone who can keep track of everything and watch its effect on your body.
I know what you mean, t hough, if I think something caused a flare, I'm not going to be masochistic and try again!
If you think it was the med, why don't you try the other things you did differently that day and if it flares with that, then you might not be so hesitant to take the med.
It's late, and I'm probably not making sense.

My scrip says 1 or 2 at bedtime (25 mg). It depends on what kind of day I've had and how early in the evening it is. If it's late, I only take one since it makes it a little difficult to hit the ground running when I get up.
Since it is an antihistamine, I've noticed that some times I get a 'post nasal' type drip, or it's difficult to clear my throat since my sinuses were affected. Last night someone thougt I had a bad cold. Once I could cough it up, I was fine.
I get dry mouth too, but I don't know for sure where that comes from - Ditropan of hyd.. I do know that I am feeling sooooo much better than I have for a long, long time. I still don't sleep a full 8 hours, even if I have time. I am alert when I need to be, but if I give myself some down time, I can fall asleep, usually for just a few minutes and then I'm raring to go again. Last week we had a terrible storm and I didn't want to get soaked going into the house, so I stayed in the car. I fell sound asleep and was awaken by the thunder.
I hate to take meds. I've tried to get off different ones at different time with disastrous effects. So I bless God that there are creative scientists that can come up with these drugs that cure and heal.

Hi Janie! I know when I first started taking it, it seemed my frequency went up, along with the other symptoms. I was really frustrated, but decided to keep taking it, at least a week or so, to see if that calmed down. It did, thankfully!! I was to the point where I almost stopped taking in the first couple days, but I am so glad I didn't. I believe that was the final piece in the puzzle of meds for me, as I was only taking the Elmiron and Ditropan at the time. Since starting the hydroxyzine, things have only gotten better. Can't say which med it is exactly, but I can only think it was the addition of the hydroxyzine that made the difference!

Hope this helps a little bit!! Oh yeah, SrMaggie, I get the same postnasal drip, only sometimes though, it's weird! It's like I just can not clear my throat and my voice is like gone! Drives me crazy sometimes!!

Thanks SrMaggie, Mine says take 2 but I started with one. I might try 2 this weekend to see how it goes. I've noticed already that I only get up once during the night to go to bathroom.
