Hi, Baldy. I get blood in my urine form time to time. I recommend you get a UTI test at the Doctor's office. However, sometimes, by the time I get to the doctor, there is not anymore blood. But, it always should be called about. Good luck. Michelle.

Hi Baldy, welcome to the ICN... yes, men can do the test for UTI's (urinary tract infections). In fact, it's actually easier for you guys to do it than us girls because you've got better aim than we do. :)

All you need to do is pee in a cup. :)

Generally, they will dip a special stick into your urine, and this can detect the presence of blood, white blood cells, bacterial products, and other things, and they can often tell you right then and there if it's an infection. If not, they will send some of your urine to be cultured (they put it in petri dishes with special media and see if it grows any colonies of bacteria). This part takes about 3 days to find out the results but, in most cases, it tells you for sure if you've got an infection...and it can tell the docs what antibiotics will be most effective in treating the bugs you have.

Definitely go to your doc and get tested... visible blood in the urine should always be checked out by a professional.

Good luck!!!

Visible blood in urine usually indicates infection. If I'm flaring, I have red cells in my urine, but not visible except under a microscope. Any time I can actually see the blood, I know I have an infection.

Hello Baldy4 and welcome to the boards. I use to have blood in my urine all the time but mine was from cysts that I had in my bladder and my bladder would never completely empty and would keep the cysts irritated and raw all the time. Hope you get to feeling better soon. grouphug grouphug .....Brea

I have had lots of blood in my urin. I also have prostitis along with IC. The blood comes from an infection from the prostitis. The Dr. will put me on a antibotic for a few days and it will clear up. I recently underwent lasser surgery on the prostrate and it has helped with a lot of the pain I have been having, but it is too early to see if it will help the bleeding. I have my hopes up.

Yes, it's possible that you have another infection --- I think it's worth checking out. Sometimes it can be very difficult to totally get rid of an infection.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna

I have had blood in my urine almost continuously for the last 15 months. I have never had an infection. If you have blood in your urine, your dr. will probably prescribe antibiotics just to be on the safe side. There are many reasons for blood in the urine, any of which need a professional opinion. Good Luck.
