Gyn appt. was a failure

Gyn appt. was a failure . She said it was up to me if I wanted to stop the elmiron. She said to make an appt. with my stomach dr. Which I did on Tuesday . I am having an cbc done today for weakness and dizziness . To consult with my uro which he is absoulutely useless . All he prescribed me was urised which made me sick and urecholine. He wouldn't prescribe me any other meds. My gyn wouldn't do instills or prescribe atarax or Vistril because she said it just masks the symptoms . so I am back where I started the only possible way I have out of this . Is to get my ulcer under control and to take elmiron . with another egd. or pray and ask my family dr. if he will prescribe me atarax or vistril for me till I can get my ulcer under control. which I have an appt. with him next week on august 10th. Pray for me . :cussing: I Am cutting down my dose on elmiron till then.

Awwwww, I was hoping that your appointment would be a good one. What does she mean it "masks" the symptoms? Atarax helps CONTROL the symptoms, and if it helps, then so what if it masks it. There isnt a cure for IC, so all we have are "masks". Grrrr. I'm so sorry. I'm glad you are seeing your stomach doc on Tuesday, you really need to get in there. I'm also glad they did a CBC on you. The only problem with that is it takes so long to get the results back...and of course it's Friday! If you have ANY sign of increased weakness, you see blood in your stool or urine, etc, you high tail it to the ER....ok?

Aaw Kim, I was SO hoping your appt would go well also! What an idiot to say it masks the symptoms, you should have said, Oh Okay I will take the medicine that will "cure" me then, because there isn't one! Duh.
Hang in there, and like they said, if it gets bad, go to the ER. I will be thinking of you.

I Am Sorry You Didn't Have A Sucessful Doctors Appt. If There Isn't A Cure For A Disease And They Make A Pain Medicine That Works Then Where In The World Is The Problem On Giving The Meds To The Patient To Help The Pain???! This Is What I Don't Understand! We Have To Do What We Have To Just To Make It Everyday. They Need To Understand That Better!!! Being Mommy's And Wives Isn't An Easy Job Anyway But, When You Are In Alot Of Pain It Is Really Hard To Do These Things On A Daily Bases...wouldn't You Agree?

Kim I am sorry...I would suggest finding either another urologist or gyno who is willing to treat your IC. Atarax or Vistiral are normal to prescribe for IC. And like the others said all the IC meds mask or help with the symptoms since there is no cure. Did she think the Elmiron would cure you? Did you ask her about doing the Elmiron instills? If not look for another dr. I would not suggest retrying the Elmiron after you get your ulcer under control. All you will do is give yourself another one, and you dont need your stomache ate up just like your bladder. There are other meds out there. I am also not able to take the Elmiron. So sorry to hear that Kim, I agree with the rest, sounds like it's time for some detective work to find a new doc!!! I can't believe you weren't even given the hydroxyzine (vistaril/atarax), maybe if you had gone in complaining about allergies you could have gotten it, LOL. Ugh. And I suppose it can't hurt to ask the family doc for the med, you never know. Even print of some info from here to take and show if you are uncertain of how that request will go. (which I am doing with my gyno on the Elmiron issue). I am keeping you in my prayers, hopefully relief will be soon, you deserve it, you have had enough!! ;)

Huh????? :rolleyes: Hmmm, let's see - there is an increased amount of mast cells in the bladders of many IC patients. Antihistamines help with that. Sounds like treating the symptoms to me....

I'm so sorry you are having trouble getting your medical needs met adequately. That really stinks. :(

Thanks everyone. I have a follow up appt. with my family dr. wed. I am going to ask him to prescribe me atarax or vistril just for now till I find what is going on . He is pretty good at it. I asked him for the pyruiduim and he gave it to me. My gyn was acting like I was asking for a highly addictive drug or something.My dr. ordered more than a cbc he did a full blood panel so hopefully we will get to the bottom of it soon. My dr. wrote on the paper asap. for the lab work. the results.

So what's wrong with masking the symptoms, since they cant cure it. The main thing is to get out of the pain. Some Dr's are downright stupid. I wonder what she would say, if she had IC "Oh please no medicine, it will only mask the symtoms"?

Thanks Traven I am seeing my gastro doc this morning and my family dr. tommorrow I am hoping to get answers from my fp tommorrow . I wrote nots to my fp Becacause I am to weak to talk and forget things . I plan on taking a print out about hydroxine from this website also tommorrow .

Please let us know how it goes today. When you say you are too weak to talk it scares me!!! I've had a lot going on the past few days so if I dont reply to your posts or a pm quickly it doesnt mean I dont care, its just kinda crazy here. I hope the doctors understand the severity of all of this.

Hello , I just got back from my stomach dr. He says basically I need to stop taking elmiron it is basically eating my stomach up alive. I told him what will happen when I stop taking elmiron my urethra and bladder will swell shut and send me to severe urinary retention and severe pain. So I called and made a a last plea to my gynecologist for hydroxine . The nurse said she will page her and call me back this afternoon. If she won't help me I will have to ask my family dr. to help me .I will see him Tommorrow . If I don't feel any better in a week to call my stomach dr. he will set up an egd.

omg kim!! that is aweful, now why would a dr tell you to just stop taking any medication, i always found it is best to ween oneself off anything.

I am sooo sorry to hear that Kim. What is wrong with people!?? I just don't understand! It makes me angry, I can only imagine how it makes you feel. Well, you still have a shot with the family doc, right?? You are definitely in my thoughts, I will keep sending all the positive energy your way that I can possibly can!!!! ;)
