Hello my ulcer is bleeding from the elmiron My fp prescribed me Carafate to protect the ulcer to see if that helps . If it doesn't and I continue to get weaker go straight to the hostipal . He says if I get no better I will have to see my stomach dr. for another egd to stop the bleeding. Talk to my gyn friday at my appt . to see if they are other options to treat the Ic. Like elmiron and lidocaine instills. and to follow up with him on august 16th. He told me to continue on the prevacid and phenegran.

Emily, I think if I were you, I would go on the elmiron instills. I do them at home almost daily and they help much more than the pills ever did. I use marcaine or lidocaine, sterile water, sodium barc. and 2 emptied elmiron capsules

Jeepers--that is so scary. Carafate is a good med though. Take care of yourself and let me know how I can help.

Thanks Jess and everyone. I have been living on Jello and pudding and slimfast. My dr. says you lost a lot of weight.

Well weight loss isn't bad, but it's bad when it's from not eating. Get that ulcer better and put some of that weight back on, girl!

The first time I ever had any gastro intestinal problems was after I tried elmiron for the first time. Since then I have been on Prevacid and had multiple endoscopies etc. I really believe it was the elmiron. I agree, try to get instills if possible.

Thanks everyone, I am going to ask my gyn about hydroxine and elmiron and lidocaine instills tommorrow and explain what the elmiron is doing to me. My fp says He can't take me off elmiron because he wasn't the one that prescribed it . My gyn will have to take me off it.

Gosh Kim I am so sorry. As much trouble and all the crap you went through with your insurance company just to get the Elmiron prescribed and then it ate at your stomaches just completely sucks. My hubbys ulcer has been bothering him alot lately.....I will keep praying that this med works for you and :grouphug: coming your way.

I don't understand why someone has to 'take you off it?' If it is hurting you and causing your ulcer to bleed, just stop taking it and call your gyno and say that you stopped. You don't need their permission to stop something that is harmful...when my gyn told me to try Detrol way back when and I had side effects, I just stopped taking it and called her to let her know and made another appt, where she then referred me to a uro...Of course if you were taking an addictive substance like a pain medicine or an antidepressant, that is another story, but Elmiron you should not have a problem stopping if you can't tolerate it....Hope everything goes well at the gyn...I am thinking about trying Elmiron one of these days but trying every alternative first....If it made me have such bad stomach problems as you seem to, I would not hesitate to stop nit though....Hope that the many other things out there will help you where Elmiron could not.
