Well we are day 2 into the puppy and so far so good. Life is a littel hectic with her and the baby. The older dogs are pouting something fierce. Knock on wood she has had NO ACCIDENTS. She is very intelligent as far as potty training is going. I forgot how onary a puppy can be.

My hubby bought me a Basset Hound for this past christmas. Well we have a Daushand (sp is horrible) weenie dog named Sheba. Well hubby came in with dog in his hand and Sheba stayed mad at him for a week. Had nothing to do with him nada. He stays outside, but for us trying to house break the weenie dog was horrible. Finally because we could not get it done, we put outside. But she learned and is inside. When she goes in the house I put her out for awhile sometimes over night and she learns her lesson fast as she does not want to be outside. Hopefully the other dogs will get over their jealousy soon.....

Congrats on your new arrival. May the inside poo-poo and pee-pee never happen.

Hugs,

I hope you continue to be accident free :)

My husband has this awful Chihuahua... when I met him, he hadn't gotten the dog neutered and it would urinate all over the house marking territory. His house smelled like dog pee. So when I moved in I made him take all the carpet out, and I also made him get rid of this ugly blue sofa that the dog liked to pee on. Then, the dog needed an operation for a hernia, and the vet said that was common in unfixed male dogs... so when hubby was out of earshot I told the vet to um, "fix" the dog while he was under for the hernia. Vet did as I said, and hubby got over it because the vet said it would help the hernia from recurring... let's just say there has not been any peeing in the house since then... which is GREAT because we just moved into a house that has off-white carpet in the living room and hardwood everywhere else. (Ever see what dog pee does to hardwood? Ewww.) :biglaugh:

Congrats on the new addition to your household. I have a dalmation, but you might have figured that by my atavar. My dog looks almost like that doggy....anyhow, I want a puppy so bad. I used to have an Australian Shepherd...beautiful, SMART smart dog that used to heard the kids when they were little. Got any suggestions on a medium size dog that's really smart? I love my dalmation, hes real smart and well behaved, but hes 6 now and I want a new baby to love. Something that can live with cats too!

Sounds like you're having fun!! Good luck!

My pick for medium dogs are these Brittany's they are so easy tempered, learn very quickly, rarely bark ( that is one of there traits)but then I have become really partial to them since we got the first one 2 years ago. I was a straight Golden Retriever person until we got then Brittanys. You really can't ask for a more intelligent breed. Good luck on the puppy hunting!!!!!

PS Still doing great no accidents no problems other then your normal 7 week puppy onariness

We have a dal*****n too! Our Meggie is a really smart dog and very cuddly. We got her when she was only five weeks old so we definitely had her through her puppyhood.

Thanks Leslie! I will definately look into those doggies! Donna, I remember you telling me about your Dal when I was on the board last year. My baby was abused as a puppy, and I adopted him when he was 12 weeks old. He STILL is irrationally afraid of everyday things at 6 years old. If you pick up a lighter and he sees it he RUNs, if you grab the hose or turn on the tub, he FREAKS out and loses his bladder, a magazine or newspaper will send him trying to get himself under the bed.

I feel so blessed from this dog. I feel like I have made a difference in his life by giving him a good, loving home, and he has given me nothing but unconditional love, especially since I've been sick. I pity anyone that ever tries to harm me in his presence!!! He'd kill them or die trying! They're great dogs that get a bad rap sometimes. Do you have a picture of your Meggie? My dog's name is Bandit...we drew it out of a hat...not my first choice for a name cause he is soooooooo not a Bandit... lol!

Wow Sandy seems like you gave him a great home. Roxy our first Brittany was a resque from a not so good home, she now rules the roost here. We jump when she barks LOL My dogs have it made and they know it, this new puppy is still the outsider to them and trying to find her fit in the pack. S far it has been on me and I ain't the pack LOL
