Hello all,

I'm a bit confused about the use of T.E.N.S., and didn't find an answer on the net. Is it supposed to be used for overactive bladder? I have a ton of urgency and frequency, but I don't have an overactive bladder (according to urodynamics).

Thanks! :)

As far as I know a T.E.N.S. unit is for pain management. That is what my interferential unit is for and the two units are similiar in use. I do have frequency and urgency but my IF does not affect those symptoms. Hope this helps. Welcome to the ICN! Glad to have you here. Blessings to you and yours.

The TENS unit works by sending tiny electric currents, which can "confuse" the nerves so they don't recognize pain. I imagine it could work for frequency --- I haven't tried it for my IC, but did use one when I had a frozen shoulder following surgery and found it very effective for pain control.

I have a tens unit that is temporarily broken..unfortunately. I used to use it all the time for fibro pain. Since I've been diagnosed with IC I havent been able to try it for bladder pain. It wont help with frequency, or urgency though, unfortunately. You might be confused with the interstim.

I sleep in one. It works for both on me.

I have my tens on 24/7. It seems to help some with the frequency at night but that is along with the hydroxyzine too. If I don't take that then the tens won't help with that. It does not seem to help with frequency after I get up for the day. Helps me mostly with the pain.

Wow! If you guys get some relief from urgency/frequency with your unit I REALLY need to get mine fixed. I was told it would not help with anything but the pain.

Thats why I love this board...I learn something new every day!
