I don't know who to talk to about adding another section to the board but I find that anti anxiety meds the doctor gave me help both the anxiety and relax the bladder muscles. Anyone else? :welcome:

Just wondering - what kinds of anti-anxiety meds do you take that calm your bladder down? And, when you say "calm your bladder", do you mean the spasms or just the normal crap? I've tried valium before (10 mg), and it didn't do a thing my make me very jittery. (But, when I was on it, I did have the cleanest house around! :) )

I did not like Valium which blew my doctor away. She said she had never heard of anyone not liking Valium and found it amusing.

I love Xanax though. That really calms you and your bladder down nocely and relatively quickly (about 20 minutes or so to kick in whereas Valium seemed to take an hour or more). My doctor told me that Xanax is a short term fast acting tranquilizer so maybe thats why. It does help the bladder some and really calms you. I take a 1/2 at night to sleep along with a 25 Mg Bendaryl (Pink Kapseals).

Along the lines of anxiety I would like to talk about sleeping pills.

Ambien really gives me a good night sleep but it flares my IC. I notice it is

real bitter to the taste, so I assume thats the reason, that It may cause

mast cell release. Has anyone tried the new Lunesta?

I have an entire thread on here somewhere about Lunesta. You can search my name for all the posts, or type in Lunesta. I will tell you that I don't hate it as much as I used to. I still take Ambien, but every now and then I will skip the Ambien and try the Lunesta. I dont get the bad taste in my mouth as badly as I did the first time or two I took it, and it's working a bit better. We'll see...if I can get off the Ambien for good, and switch to the Lunesta without a bunch of side effects, AND get a good nights sleep, I will be happy.

I am very new at this so I'm still trying to figure out what works. I have found that when I take my Xanax I don't seem to need pain meds.

I find that ativan helps the bladder pain get me to relax! I can't seem to tolerate any of other meds......so ativan it is!

Xanax is my godsend! It's my dream medicine. When my bladder starts acting up a half tablet calms it down within a half hour.
